In case you somehow missed it, tomorrow Friday December 15th we're sporting our Christmas Sweaters with pride. Launched in 2011 the annual celebration of Christmas Sweater Day is not as silly as you may think. Actually there is a reason in wearing that colourful, brash and slightly embarrassing jumper. There is more to wearing those seasonal knits featuring Rudolph, Christmas puddings and Frosty the Snowman. It’s the fundraising event with a serious aim in aid of Save the Children. It’s an umbrella that helps to drive charity funds for organisations that help children on a global scale.

As the trend has being going on for some years many retailers have put a more stylish spin into the historically awkward Christmas sweater. From Boohoo and Forever21, Nasty Gal, Lord & Taylor as well as SAKS Fifth Avenue, you’ll definitely discover a style that doesn’t make you cringe. This year try to style it with a cool leather jacket, a vinyl skirt and ankle boots and blend that overtly Christmas spirit into a more cohesive party outfit! Have a look at our gallery for more inspo on how to wear the Christmas Jumper and shop you’re favourite style from our edit below!

Maybe it’s a clever tactic to simultaneously keep warm and spread a little holiday cheer, or just Save the Children’s genius charity fundraising idea but Christmas jumpers are officially a thing. And as it’s Christmas Jumper day this Friday 15th December, if you see one you like: buy it and put it on asap. All your favourite brands have knitted up some real festive treats from witty puns and slogans, to reindeer and gingerbread motifs, and a sprinkling of stars for those trying to limit the tacky factor. Opt for a tinsel style if you want to take yours into partywear territory. The best thing about a cosy Christmas jumper is that you can wear them everyday over the holidays, no matter your age and size, and the extra room to house an inevitable food baby come Boxing Day is a bonus. To join in properly, Save the Children only asks for a £2 donation in exchange for flaunting your delightful knit.

I am definitely a style over practicality girl. However, more and more I am refusing to buy shoes that I know - deep, deep down - will ruin my feet. Every now and again, a trend comes along that sees the miraculous fusion of style and practicality. The disco jumper is just this. Actually it is very cold outside and no I don't really want to wear a cami. It a sparkly or sequinned jumper hey presto we can be warm and still be in seasonal style. This #DorothyPerkins (image from their website) piece is only £21 but you can buy them all over the high street from #Topshop to #Reiss. What do you think of this new party trend?

Nothing signals winter like the XL jumper’s suddenly essential status. Wider and comfier than your standard poloneck or v-neck, they’re super versatile and just the ticket when it’s cold outside and you want to take your duvet out and about with you. Which doesn’t mean they’re only casual, au contraire. Style them right and you can swaddle up for work, party and weekend and still be best dressed. Yes, even at the party thanks to a thigh-hitting hemline and IDGAF attitude. Trust us.

Here’s how we’re wearing them with our expert edit of must-buy pieces to see you through the season.

It's finally the season of mulled wine and fairy lights, aka. the best month of the year. This means dressing for the occasion. There's nothing like the classic Christmas jumper. Adorned in Christmas trees, snowmen and thick knits to get cosy in, this is the epitome of December clothing. The sweatshirt shown is @teetsparis (image Instagram), I think this is insanely cute but I'll also be checking out #Topshop and #ASOS.
