Kate Moss turned 44 today, and for more than 20 years she has been infusing the fashion industry with her unique sense of grunge and boho style, her edge and her overall completely effortlessly elegant aesthetic. The truth is that she has had an excellent training of top designers, stylists and fellow models that have worked with her. So she has developed her unique formula of Kate Moss style that relies on a few simple style rules. Shopcade investigates.

1. Go for an edgy denim

We 've always associated denim with Kate Moss but she's always gone for the denim underdog - the styles that weren't on trend at the time. From low-cut skinny jeans to wide -legged jeans and animal print she's worn all kind of styles and it has always been ahead of their time. Kudos!

2. Quality

Moss is not a fan of the high street. Even though she has launched many successful fashion lines with Topshop she always goes for quality. One of her favourite past times is discovering second-hand clothing from Portobello market.

3. Timeless Prints

You could say that Moss is a print queen. She loves her leopard print, polka dots and a few 70s funky patterns. But she always goes for the ones with classic appeal. She would never go too crazy which explains her effortless yet edgy look.

4. Jewellery

When she wants to draw attention from the clothes she turns to jewellery and diamonds to be exact. From 19th-century drop earrings to sapphire and ruby bangles she knows how to make any dab outfit spark.

The past season jewelry trends have been less ladylike and funkier. Take the mismatched earring trend of last fall or the insect trend of last year - there's nothing securely elegant about it. This season designers are turning back time and are opting for gold primitive tribal jewelry that is very often handmade. Think of silhouettes that are not clearly defined and are rarely the same because they have been crafted by hand. The result is a more precious version of your basic jewellery and is much defined by the 'one of a kind' aesthetic.

Designers Annie Costello Brown and Natasha Schweitzer are well-versed in this technique. Sport a pair of primitive earrings with your athleisure outfit or with a bodycon dress for a night out. Just remember to keep your hair pulled back in a bun and make the earring the main focus. Opt for a gold necklace with a precious blue stone in a primitive shape.

As we're clearly in award season mode we thought it would be the best time to get inspired for the ultimate black tie looks! During this year's Golden Globes the actresses made both a political and fashion statement by sporting black on the red carpet. All guests were encouraged to go for black in solidarity with the Time's Up movement, that calls for change by 300 women in film, television and theatre against sexual assault, harassment and inequality.

The black colour was also intended to stop reporters from asking the "who are you wearing" question. And even if their "act of rebellion" lost the point in the terms that the colour doesn't define the dress, and men do get asked that question too. The end result was an array of black gowns and the race for who wore it best was still on.

If you want to play it "safe" then a black ensemble is all you need. Pair it with high stiletto pumps, a cute clutch, red lip and pulled back hair.

Go for a sleek pantsuit and leave the bra at home (just be careful of styling for a enviable and safe result). Add your fave heels a cross body bag and a great piece of jewellery for effect.

Opt a dose of romanticism by wearing a tutu skirt dress with sandals a tiny clutch bag and some sleek makeup.

For a vavavoom effect go for a long silk slip dress in a daring red, elegant black or sleek grey and pair with with sling backs a tiny 90s hand bag and a great hair piece.

Our necks are feeling a bit bare with the jewellery spotlight currently trained on the ear. So donning a gold medallion is a great way to draw eyes a little lower. Less ostentatious rapper, more beautiful historic heirloom, the medallions (necklace pendants) available now tend to be round and poetic, with tiny motifs etched in inspired by the arts or religion, hanging from a chain. You’ve probably spotted Alighieri’s perfectly imperfect styles dangling down stylish presenter Laura Jackson’s back and from streetstyle star Camille Charriere’s neck on Instagram.

Wondering why now when you’re probably wrapping up with a blanket-sized scarf which will totally conceal said medallion? The answer is because it’s unexpected and will add an unusual edge to whatever you’re wearing. Whether against bare skin after dark when all your layers have been shed or arranged over a high neck, these small-but-impactful pieces are also likely to start a conversation: “Tell me more about that unusual necklace." Name pendants are pretty common (in all sense of the word) now but there’s still an air of mystery around the gold medallion that you’ll gain by default by wearing it.

precious jewellery has been recently stolen from a palace in Venice. This gorgeous peacock is one of the pieces. I adore weird jewellery pieces, that look like art. Even if I can't wear them, I just can look it and displays them as decoration on a vanity. You guys like particular pieces of jewellery too? We’ve got to give it to Gap. Getting some of our favourite instagrammers to rock their rainbow stripe styles as part in their #12daysofcrazystripe campaign pre Christmas was a stroke of genius. Monica Ainley teamed her knit with white jeans and a khaki coat; @andfinally_ founders Anna Vitiello and Florrie Thomas’ cropped shots featured eye-catching jewellery and a beret; while the @belleandbunty girls wore theirs with mini skirts. Not only did the reinvigorated brand succeed in pushing rainbow stripes back on our radar with stellar styling inspiration, they also created this winter’s it pattern.

Sadly Gap’s crazy stripe styles are largely sold out but you’ll find that plenty of your favourite brands and retailers have been lining up to push this colourful trend forward. From trophy tops to dazzling dresses, standout shoes and even activewear and swimwear- there are so many ways to lift your cold weather wardrobe and your spirits. It’s worth noting that the description ‘rainbow’ has been used rather loosely to encompass all bold and kaleidoscopic multi-colour combinations. And despite that, these stripes are just as timeless as their classic Breton counterparts and surprisingly versatile too. Trust us.

Chokers were a huge deal in the past few seasons. As I’m guessing everyone is getting tired of this necklace trend, you will be happy to hear the newest it-necklace. Layered necklaces are getting more and more popular these days. You don’t necessarily have to buy new layered necklaces. You can just wear some necklaces with different lengths to try this style out. Try this necklace with V-neck sweaters or blouses, they even go with turtlenecks… There is nothing that looks more elegant than this trend. With thin styles and cute pendants, these necklaces are perfect if you love to bling up! #necklace #jewellery #trend #fashion elegant style #streetstyle

Don't we all love hoops by now? They've been a staple over the past couple of years in everyone's jewellery box. Too often I forget that there's more than just a silver or gold hoop. These Alison Lou Gold and Enamel Hoops are perfect for being a little more adventurous with hoop choice. They're priced at $1,865 but no doubt they'll be plenty of dupes. Image: Elle.com

Anything Phoebe Philo does at Celine turns to gold, or ends up in wardrobes worldwide in some iteration. For once, though, we weren’t looking at the intelligently visionary clothing of the Resort ’18 collection, rather the gold hoops hanging from the models’ ears. Chunky and twisted, they add a flash of showy glamour to the covetable sense of refinement that feels very of-the-moment. And we’d very much like to impulse buy everything in shot, but the earrings or a similar style are a much cheaper way to get the look.

What’s funny, though, is that you probably already own a pair of gold hoops but never previously put them into this context. They’re worn by teenagers, rude girls, “chavs” and señoritas with slicked down baby hairs and Croydon facelift ponytails, not necessarily stylish women. We’re stereotyping of course, because gold hoops now have jewellery box essential status due to their incredible ability to elevate any look with instant and undeniable sex appeal. Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce are gold hoop icons and they’ve been spotted on many a streetstyle star. Thin or chunky, plain or detailed, tiny or shoulder- skimming: they’re also in line with the geometric mood in jewellery but are arguably most classic. Don’t bother mismatching your gold hoops or wearing them one by one as it ruins the effect; and if you buy yours in multipacks, you’ll always have back-up pairs.
