The allure of wearing lingerie as outerwear is nothing new, but as we transcend into Spring the most popular trend of last season is emerging yet again: the slip dress. Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Selena Gomez welcomed the sexy throwback trend from the 90s without fail. Likewise, in the 1990’s Andy McDowell, Rachel from Friends and pretty much every starlette of the time sported this very easy to incorporate trend. Its popularity stems from its versatile nature.

An ivory floor length slip can make for a wondrous wedding dress, a red slip dress can look amazing on a night out while a black slip worn with a white tee and a pair of sneakers is your ultimate daywear go-to!

When it comes to styling layering a piece of fabric (plain white t-shirt, blouse, shirt) is not only chic but very practical too. It's one thing having a strap fall when worn as lingerie at home it's quite another if that happens while working or commuting crammed in the tube. That multitasking white t-shirt lets the slip stay in place whilst providing cover.

For that extra piece of layer wear it over a slogan hoodie that will elevate your style know-how while keeping you warm at the same time.

Have a look at out exclusive edit of all the slip styles you need to own this season!

At NYFW Prabal Gurung presented his February 2018 collection, filled with the colours of his home country, Nepal. The runway was vibrant with thick woven knits and bright varied textures. This particular look on Gigi Hadid is absolutely gorgeous; the oversized scarf being the statement piece. Credit: Fashion Week

This week marks the 100 year anniversary of women first winning the vote in the UK. And while much has changed since 6 February 1918, the fact that there’s a plethora of feminist fashion and literature available and multiple women’s marches staged in recent years suggests the spirit of the suffragists is still very much alive. These women, unlike the radical suffragettes who were more militant and resorted to violence (Emily Davison died after walking out in front of King George V’s horse at the 1913 Epson Derby), campaigned to win the vote peacefully. The combination of tactics worked and these days women are campaigning for gender equality and protesting against issues like period poverty and sexual harassment in powerful ways.

Besides donating money and joining marches, there are other ways to share your beliefs and solidarity with fellow women. We’d suggest reading up about the history of the suffragists and suffragettes, women's rights and feminism; and fashion wise, slogan t-shirts are probably the easiest way to share your thoughts as they’ll effortlessly go with what’s already in your wardrobe. There’s bound to be one that reflect your thoughts and you can discover the protest garment’s 20th century timeline and impact at an exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum which opens today. Dior’s ‘We should all be feminists’ t-shirt, inspired by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s essay and Ted talk, is arguably the most famous and the fashion girl choice, and the audio featured on Beyonce’s ‘Flawless’ track. The word and terms ‘feminist’ (which so loaded you may have to justify yourself to onlookers when wearing it), ‘girl power’ and ‘grl pwr’ feature on a range of stylish pieces and accessories too. We’d also recommend making the Spice Girls your current soundtrack, given their still very relevant #girlpower message, and you can add empowering quotes to your home decor.

Gifting chocolates and roses on Valentine’s day is standard. Something sweet for your sweetheart makes sense, although they may be less than impressed if they’re religiously watching their waistline. Ah well cheat day it is. Because if you’re lucky enough to be gifted a box of chocolates, it would be rude not to try any (and finish the box to eliminate any further temptation). Don’t worry, your secret’s safe with us. And isn’t it so lovely to receive a beautiful bouquet of red roses? Especially at work with an audience even though they're are unlikely to last more than a week. They’ll add a splash of colour and a lovely fragrance to your home, conjuring visions of springtime ahead.

Never fear, we’re here to help you flip the script if it all sounds a bit too cliché. Chocolate-wise, rather than buying a generic box last minute from a nearby supermarket; spend a little bit more for treats from a chocolatier and widen their horizons with an unusual flavour among their favourites. When choosing their flowers consider this: do they actually like roses? If they do or you don’t have much time, fine and consider adding different colours and species to jazz it up. But don’t add fuel to the ‘Valentine’s day is nothing more than a hallmark holiday’ brigade if you could get them a bunch of different flowers they’d prefer. Peonies are pretty popular.

I know, I really don't post not related beauty and fashion content But I find this photography a piece of art. I find it very poetic how the person is watering the flowers even when they look dead. I would definitely frame this photo and put it in my apartment like home decor. Like a reminder that you still need to keep going even if you feel like falling out. Stop and smell the roses when it comes to beauty. Because the romantic flower is fragrancing and boosting regenerative products, making it an obvious choice for your Valentine’s Day prep. There’s a reason why grandmothers are perceived to slather rose-scented creams on as the rose smells sweet but also has anti-ageing, hydrating and soothing qualities too, according to facialist Nichola Joss. Therefore everyone can benefit from this natural ingredient, although its scent comes through strongest via an essential oil or in a rose water. And if you’re wondering what rose hip is, it's the flower’s uplifting fruit which is prettily potent.

So what skin dilemma are you looking to solve before your big date or hangout? If it’s dry patches on your face and body, a few daily drops of rose oil will help with that. After a rose mask primed to tone and make your skin radiant of course. A rose petal bath feels like a real luxury, so rather than destroying a bunch of actual roses, scatter Boux Avenue’s dissolvable petals instead as they release a relaxing fragrance or soak in rose bath salts. If it’s just the delicately intoxicating smell you’re after for yourself and to set the mood at home, spray a rose perfume or light a candle.

We never thought there would be a time when we yearned for more snow but, after seeing some star influencers frolicking on the slopes via their instagram feeds, we are. It’s ski season and the uniform du jour? Perfect Moment skiwear. Now the #jetaporter and #thenetset hashtags captioning the pictures of Linda Tol, Alice Casely-Hayford and co make it clear that these images are part of an elaborate and very enviable marketing scheme. In other words, these women may have been paid to wear this brand on what looks like one hell of a press trip but we don’t care. These graphic styles look so great we’re sold and others like Jane McFarland and Monica Ainley have given Perfect Moment their own stamp of approval by wearing it organically.

Statement coats are all the rage so a Perfect Moment jacket definitely wouldn’t be out of place on the street. In fact, you’d be positively toasty, and maybe even a little smug, that your bold puffa is made from a superior, insulating material and few other people will have the same. Ski jumpers are also trending so why don’t you wear a real one by a specialist ski brand with fresh motifs rather than a purely fashion-y one? The ski trousers or salopettes are best left for ski trips but don’t overlook those wool jumpsuits- they’re the chicest, sleekest luxury onesies we’ve seen and ideal for lounging around at home.

So you have made plans with your newly discovered beau and it's tonight. It's enough dealing with the butterflies that come with meeting and spending time with him there's no reason why you should add more pressure to yourself when selecting an outfit. All you need is to think about a few guidelines that might make that selection a lot easier.

Reflect Your Individual Style

When opting for your outfit just think of what would work for you on a normal basis. You more than anyone else know your attributes. Your job is to simply detect them and accentuate them.

Go For Tights

Leggings and tights in general have this amazing capacity to make you look more slender, they define an elongated silhouette while at the same time they can be very flattering and keep you warm at the same time. That being said, you shouldn't go for anything too revealing either that might send the wrong message about who you really are.

Don't Do Baggy

Baggy clothes are a great way of showing off your individuality but they also give off the vibe you rather chill in your slacks at home then spend time with your date. At least show that you're invested. Of course a few might argue that if you don a pair of the baggiest clothes with a tight top the end result might be very appealing. Leandra Medine won the heart of her than ex boyfriend and current husband with a pair of harem pants. So in the end go with your gut and your individual style.

Call us catty but we’ve always thought of ‘Uggs’ as shorthand for ‘ugly’ no matter the height or colour. And Y/Project’s Creative Director Glenn Martens has taken up the ‘ugly shoe’ trend baton and pushed it to new and extreme heights quite literally by lengthening and widening the boot for his AW18 menswear collection, shown last week in in Paris. It’s worth pointing out that there are three styles in this Y/Project x Ugg collaboration which all reflect the exaggerated proportions that the Parisian upstart brand is making it’s name with. The big question wasn’t whether they’d be comfortable- of course they’ll be. Martens himself described wearing Uggs as "putting your foot in a warm pot of butter" to Vogue.com and wanted to extend that admittedly wonderful feeling when faced with a super cold winter up the leg towards the crotch. And having worn these glorified slippers when they were hot during the mid Noughties, (thank you Sienna Miller) we can’t disagree. But would you wear the thigh-high ones?

If the answer’s yes, how? They were styled with oversized tops and jacket sans trousers (you wouldn't want to sweat in them?) on the runway allowing cheeky flashes of thigh that would usually be hidden. Exactly how we’d imagine Rihanna rocking them with the IDGAF attitude that’s essential for these. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a pair already winging its way to the stylish superstar as she’s a big fan of Y/Project who did her Anti Tour outfits. The swathes of suede and shearling that would be sheathing your legs are definitely cool but clearly casual, making this look fine at home or for an off-duty, weekend outing. But nowhere else as the boots can’t really be teamed with dresses, skirts and trousers because they're too bulky. But maybe that’s the point and people with the budget can save them exclusively for certain occasions. Uggs are notoriously not waterproof, even if you cover them with suede shoe protector, so the upkeep and frustratingly inevitable wet patches if you wear them out may not be worth it.

Shop our UGG edit below because whatever you think of the thigh-highs, the lower styles are much easier to wear and apparently a revival is underway.
