Customise your base 

In order to create a natural base all you need is to add a little moisturiser to your foundation. For an even dewier result add a cream with a lighter, luminescent tone and enjoy the glowing finish. 

Hold back on the concealer

It might be tempting to go crazy on the concealer considering you will not be applying much make up, but this will probably not help with your desired result. Avoid ashy under eyes and apply concealer sparingly. 

Go for natural shades 

Build up an army of neutral shades with alternative uses. Employ your eye shadow as a bronzer and smudge a glossy lip balm to give your cheeks a healthy glow.

Spring is all about dewy skin, barely there shimmers and healthy glows but knowing how to help your skin look its best can be tricky. Protecting it from pollutants in the air is tough and layering up on make up doesn’t always help either. We enlisted the help of some of our favourite beauty bloggers and editors to put together a list of tricks and tools to help you get glowing skin in next to no time. So ditch the foundation, put a cross on your calendar and prepare for a night in dedicated to skincare and spa-like relaxation.


How to detox your skin… 

Drink more 

It sounds obvious but staying hydrated is the key to great skin. Water and tea are best for flushing the toxins out of your body but avoid black teas and stick to a green tea or a brew made from nettles, dandelion and other detoxifying ingredients. 

Work out

Raising your heart rate and breaking a sweat are great for resetting your system, your skin included. Sweating out impurities that build up from snacking on junk food and exposing your skin to pollution and dirt is great but just make sure you hit the shower after a work out to avoid sweat drying on your skin.  

Try dry brushing

Brushing your skin helps to slough away dead skin cells and gently help your face and body to feel softer and look brighter. Massaging your skin also helps so investing in a little hand-held massage roller is a great idea too. 

Exfoliate your skin and use a mask

Using a face and body exfoliator is a must if you want glowing skin to rival a beauty blogger. Stick with something gentle and exfoliate once a week. You can also use an electric exfoliator like a Foreo – these are great for when you’re in a rush. Using a face mask will also help to nourish and heal your skin, drawing out impurities and leaving it feeling renewed. 

Steam your skin

Warm steam is great for your skin so take a cleansing bath or make some time to use a special beauty steamer. Your face will thank you for it.

Backstage at New York Fashion Week, amongst the clicking of heels, swirls of hairspray and flicks of mascara, hairstylist Anthony Turner said 'the blow-dry is back'. It's time to turn of the hair straighteners and give the tongs a miss too. The only styling tool you need this season is your hairdryer. Sleek, glossy hair is where it's at. I am loving this look. A blow-dry always manages to look glam even if it's a done yourself. I've recently started to get more into haircare and my top two products for keeping it healthy are coconut oil and a heat protection spray. Maca's popularity has exploded the past few years. Despite being revered for its medicinal properties for years the maca root is taking over the health community as the latest superfood. Many influencers are adding it to their morning brew for an extra boost of energy and stamina. 


The maca plant is a type of vegetable so powerful that it's sometimes referred to as Peruvian ginseng. It looks very similar to radishes and turnips with green tops and roots. Usually, the yummy tasting root is available in powder after being harvested. It has natural healing properties and has been consumed for years in the Andes as a safe superfood. The maca root powder is high in protein carbs and rich in a number of nutrient including vitamin C, copper and iron. It can also help the body adapt to external stressors like a busy schedule or illness. 

RICH IN ANTIOXIDANTS 

It has many health benefits mainly because it's rich in antioxidants meaning it can neutralise harmful free radicals fighting off disease and preventing damage to cells including ageing.

Maca, can control the amount of estrogen in the body and also can relieve the symptoms of menopause. Fashion Week is so much more than style. During fashion week we get an inside look at the hair and makeup trends that we'll be sporting all next season. On a few lucky occasions like this years’ New York Fashion Week, it also reflects a shift in society on the very definition of beauty. This NYFW was bursting with a sense of change that was embracing activism, and celebrities that were more disrupting than your average celeb bunch. 


From the breast cancer survivor Erica Hart, who walked at the Chromat show in a slip dress that was gracefully showing off her scars to the ten-year-old drag kid Desmond Napoles, who walked proudly at Gypsy Sport. To accommodate to this celebration of inclusivity and uniqueness, makeup and hairstyles were extravagant, rebellious and bold. 

EYE FOCUS 

The focus currently has shifted towards eye makeup featuring over the top looks such as black lashes and plastic bug eyes á la Gareth Pugh. There was gold glitter at Ulla Johnson and smoky eyes at Tom Ford or Alice + Olivia who traded the liquid eyeliner for a smudgy eye pencil. The eyeshadows surrendered to a rainbow effect with graphic edges in shimmering colours of pinks and purples. While Kate Spade opted for diamonds carefully glued on the models’ eyelids. 

SUBVERSIVE HAIRDOS 

When it comes to hair, the trend was all about spray products using all the essentials to create a  wet look. The accessories were over the top featuring 80’s leather headbands, throwback claw clips and irreverent updos put together with an army of hair gel. 

BOLD LIPS 

Whether it's two-tone pink and red lipstick, a healthy glow so extreme you're basically applying moon dust to your skin, red was a constant. The classic crimson lip became a powerful pout painted in a carefree fashion of individuality, whether it was in liquid form at Chromat or matte at Bottega Veneta. 

HAIR DYE 

Objecting to the single hair colour trend of seasons past, bold as they may have been, this time it was all about strategically placed streaks. The models at Sies Marjan wore pinks and blues while green and blonde short dos was also a trend at Marc Jacobs. Which of the makeup trends will you be trying this season? New York Fashion Week to a memorable close last night and marc jacobs did a good job as he showed 8o's couture.

Take a moment to appreciate the best beauty looks of New York Fashion Week AW18 with us. Because Fashion Month is so much more than just clothes and this was our first chance to check out the hair and makeup trends we'll soon be sporting next season. As with the collections and shows themselves, which celebrated rebelliousness, inclusivity and uniqueness, the shift in society regarding the definition of beauty was reflected boldly and extravagantly. 


Here are four of our favourites! 

EYE FOCUS 

It seems more is more again by the extravagant eye makeup choices on the NYFW catwalks. Ulla Johnson’s models have their eyelids dusted with gold glitter, while Tom Ford presented his own take on sexy smoky eyes, and Alice + Olivia traded liquid eyeliner for smudgy eye pencil. The eyeshadows surrendered to a rainbow effect with graphic edges in shimmering colours of pinks and purples at Oscar de la Renta and Anna Sui. We can’t wait to DIY Kate Spade’s eye makeup: sparkling diamonds carefully glued onto eyelids.

SUBVERSIVE HAIRDOS
 

The main trend was wet look hair, created by sprays that worked on every texture as seen on the Row catwalk by hairstylist Eugene Souleiman. The accessories were pretty maximalist: with 80’s leather headbands, throwback claw clips and irreverent gelled updos among the best of the bunch. 

BOLD LIPS 

Red was a colour constant, even when paired with pink for two tone lips. And it was masterfully set off with a healthy glow so extreme it will look like you applied moon dust to your skin. This classic crimson became a powerful pout, although painted in a carefree fashion, in liquid form at Chromat and matte at Bottega Veneta. 

HAIR  DYE
