If there’s one beauty essential we’ll never leave the house without, it’s lip balm. No matter the season, it’s a must-have for on-the-go moisture. But now that it’s starting to get colder – not to mention the inevitable windy weather – it's time to step our lip care game up a notch...

The best way to beat seriously chapped lips? Start with an exfoliator. Look for scrubs with organic sugar crystals and soothing essentials and use about three times a week to buff dry, flaky skin away for good.

While balms are perfect for keeping your lips moisturized throughout the day, a mask will work wonders overnight. Opt for key ingredients like coconut oil and mango butter for soft, supple lips by the morning.

We’ll always have a space in our make up bag for a balm, but now there are so many treatments and conditioners to choose from. Whether you prefer a two-in-one hydrating lipstick or a plumping gloss, there’s a product to suit every possible need.

The beauty gods have blessed us this summer and between new products and old favourites, we think we might just have perfected our skincare and make-up routines…

Now, there are mainstays in every Beauty Editor’s line-up – think a creamy concealer, winning mascara and a cure-all lip color – but there are also seasonal essentials to consider, like a powerful SPF and super-pigment bronzers for sunnier months.

We looked to the SHOPCADE team to name their must-have products, including the heroes they’ve added to their beauty hauls for summer.

Browse and shop the edit below for our favourite skincare and make-up from the likes of NARS, Tom Ford and Aesop…

A vacation means no worries, zero commitments and a break from the daily grind. However, there are some things you probably shouldn’t let slide while you’re away from home, skincare and haircare being two of them.

Excessive exposure to UV rays can really dry and damage hair so if you’re enjoying a week of relaxation in the sun, you’ll want to at least make a low-key effort to protect your hair. We’ve compiled a few ways to help keep your locks healthy all summer long...

Quick spritz

Just like your skin, when hair is exposed to the sun it becomes dry and damaged. The best way to protect it is by applying a UV protectant spray before you leave the house. Spritz through damp hair before you air or blow dry or apply liberally to dry hair – especially around your part and hairline.

Bandana babe

Keep your head, hair and skin protected from the sun with on-trend headgear. Simply wrap a cool bandana or silk scarf around your tresses, secure your ponytail with printed fabrics or go for a full head wrap in a knotted or turban style.

Serum smooth

Your after-sun routine should feature a moisturizing serum that you can apply from the roots to the end of the hair. Keep it in your hair for at least ten minutes and rinse thoroughly. Consider switching between a serum and a hair mask for damaged hair every four days.

Braid it

Another easy hack to keep your hair safe from the sun’s rays is braiding it when wet. Braids lock in moisture and are great for keeping your hair in place and ensuring you stay cool in the heat. Plus, you can channel those mermaid vibes when you take the braids out later.

We all want to follow a luxe skincare routine, buy the latest haircare products and indulge in an array of make-up goodies, but sometimes the cost can be off-putting…

After all, going for affordable beauty buys can be risky as you never really know what you're going to get. A higher price tag doesn't necessarily mean better quality so we asked our panel of beauty specialists on the best beauty steals. Here's their verdict...

For your skin

Never make the mistake of opting for something that could do your skin more harm than good because it’s affordable. Instead, look out for natural, spa-grade products at a reasonable price point. There are plenty on offer from brands like ESPA who specialise in simple skincare and wellness products without the hefty pricetag.

For your hair

Taking care of your hair from the root is important so don’t just buy an expensive shampoo and conditioner from the salon and be done with it. Invest in a collection of affordable products from a mid-range brand – we like Grow Gorgeous for this – and build a solid routine including scalp exfoliation, weekly masks, heat protector before styling and nourishing oil to finish.

For make-up

Buying make-up from the drugstore can be hit and miss. On the one hand you can end up with some great products that work just as well as those offered by high-end brands. On the other, some cheaper products tend not to work so well and are packed with ingredients that aren’t great for your skin.

For affordable make-up that’s comprised of natural or non-harmful synthetic ingredients our beauty panel agreed the place to go is The Body Shop. Their make-up and skincare range has expanded for all skin types in recent years and is perfect if you’re on a budget.   Ready to try our affordable beauty picks? Shop our exclusive edit below...

Packing for a holiday is always a tough one – so many winning outfit ideas so little space. Your best bet when filling a suitcase for your summer holiday is to create a vacay-ready capsule wardrobe that can be relied on for any and every eventuality.

This fail-safe line-up should contain a pair of sunnies that goes with absolutely everything, a wide-brimmed straw hat, hot-weather haircare products and of course, a few all-white pieces that are chic, comfortable and easy to wear.

When it comes to shoes and accessories, opt for one or two accent pieces to lift your mix and match outfits and don’t be afraid to go bold with colour and embellishment.

Finally, don’t forget light lacy lingerie, a swimsuit and a pair of faithful blue-wash denim shorts. Add a few ruffled tops and simple tees and you’re ready to roll.

We’ve all been guilty of letting our hair dry out on holiday, returning home with a salty, sun-bleached mane of tangles and wondering why we let things slide…

Looking like a bonafide beach babe doesn’t mean your hair should suffer so add these five hacks to your vacay beauty routine and thank us later.

Brush it out

Invest in a wide-toothed brush or comb to tease those tangles out and remember to be gentle. A spritz of detangler or UV heat protection spray can help with knotty hair but beware of brushing when wet and avoid slathering in conditioner before you brush as hair is more elastic in this state and prone to breakage.

Start at the root

It’s just as important to care for your scalp so before you start treating your hair, exfoliate and moisturise the skin at the root. There are plenty of great products that soothe and moisturise the scalp which is ideal if you’re heading somewhere hot.

Don’t scrunch

Gently twist your tresses and secure them with a clip or an Invisibobble, rather than scrunching them up and tying with an elastic as this bends, breaks and weakens the hair shaft leaving you with broken ends and unruly kinks – not ideal in hot weather.

Use a silk scarf

Silk prevents breakage and doesn’t create friction so if you want to keep your hair out of your face, try wrapping it up in a soft scarf. Opt for a cool printed style and knot or tie it around your ponytail or in a turban-style twist on top of your head.

Treat your hair

Use a hair mask, oil or leave-in conditioner once or twice a week to keep your locks soft, strong and shining. Restorative moisture treatments are perfect for the lead-up to a spell in the sun and indulging in a mask while you’re away and straight after you get home can’t hurt either.

Sun exposure, salty water, chlorine and frequent washes can make hair dull and brittle so summer can be a tough season for your tresses. We looked to our panel of beauty experts for a few tips on how to protect your hair during the warmer months.

Fancy having stunning holiday hair all summer long?...

Trim on the regular

Having your hair cut on a regular basis means preventing split ends before they can move up your strands. Book your hair appointment as a preventative measure even if your hair is already in a good condition. Every four to six months should do the trick.

Moisture locked

The sun can have a drying effect on your hair so it's essential to begin a regular regime of deep moisturizing. Apply serum on a weekly or fortnightly basis that will restore the moisture levels. For extra protection apply a hydrating mask for fine or dyed hair.

Wear a hat

Invest in cool fedora hats that will protect your hair and scalp as well as your face from the sun's harmful rays. This season we absolutely love a wide-brimmed hat with a cute bow or boho embroidery.

UV spray

Opt for a generous spritz of UV heat protector before you head out the door in summer. This seems like a small measure to take but it’ll make a ton of difference to your hair and scalp on sunny days.

Now go ahead and enjoy the summer sun with reckless abandon. Shop our favourite haircare products from the  edit below...

Bleach blonde hair looks amazing but it's also a lot of hard work. Unless you want your ends to split, your lengths to be frizzy and dry or your color turning yellow, you need to follow a few rules for healthy-looking hair.  We looked to our panel of beauty experts to find out the best ways to look after blonde hair and how to repair it too.

Here's how to care for your bleach blonde hair...

No rush

You can't rush the process of going bottle blonde. If you have dark hair especially previously dyed hair you’ll need to take your time and gradually work towards a lighter shade. At least three to four appointments are needed to reach your blonde hair goals. Don’t go all in or you’ll end up damaging your hair and definitely won’t achieve your desired shade.

Perfect salon

Do your research, consult Instagram, ask friends and be sure of the best way to fulfil your blonde ambition. Take a thorough look at the previous work of stylists and salons you like. Then  be prepared to drop some serious cash to know you’re getting the best for your hair.

No DIY

At least not the first time. Home bleaching can be extremely damaging to the hair if overused or if you've never done it before. At least speak to a colorist for a consultation before attempting it.

Proper haircare products

There's no easy way to lighten your hair because bleaching damages the hair, plain and simple. But you can lessen the damage by ensuring you're using the right products. Use a selection of moisturizing products to strengthen the bonds within the hair and prevent breakage or damage.

Ever wonder what is it that people with healthy hair do to get their tresses so on point? Sometimes it's about more than just using the right shampoo. We looked to a few haircare experts to find out what to do to achieve that natural bounce, strength and shine...

Get haircuts on the regular

If your ends are splitting, be sure to book in for regular trims curb that breakage. Make your hair appointments every 6-8 weeks.

Go au naturel

Everyone needs a rest from time to time and the same goes for your hair. Let your hair dry without heated styling products if you can and take a rest from too much product. Let it all hang loose and avoid scrunching it up too.

Hair care also means scalp care

If you're itchy and constantly scratching your head that might be a sign. Dry hair, too much product and regular pulling or scratching can  traumatize your scalp. Try products that will enhance the health of the scalp and be kind to your hair.

Add protein to your diet

Hair is keratinized protein so adding it to your everyday meals will practically mean building more hair. Add some iron while you're at it, as iron deficiency has been linked to female hair loss. And for vegans there are a lot of yummy ways to add it too.

Condition your hair

You should incorporate a deep conditioner into your weekly hair care routine for extra hydration. There are many deep-conditioning hair masks that you can apply once a week for extra shine and healthy locks. We’ve listed a few we love below.
