In this exclusive interview our Founder Nathalie Gaveau catches up with Véronique Forge-Karibian, Founder of the French site for working women Business O Feminin, to talk work/life balance, fashion, focus and how to get into the back to school mindset for the season ahead...

V: What are your tips for maintaining your zen during the busy 'back-to-school' period?

N: The key is to organize well and take advantage of the summer holidays to sort out the essentials. Plan trips and important meetings, review plans for the last quarter and communicate your goals to the teams you manage. Suddenly, we'll find we have more time for sports and the spa, it's a virtuous circle.

V: Who's been inspiring you this season?

N: Jeff Bezos, he started out 15 years ago with a small online bookstore, was criticised for years by analysts and became a leader in cloud computing. Today Amazon is valued at $1000 billion. What audacity, what tenacity in his vision.

V: What quality do you admire most in women?

N: Adaptability. Business woman, mother, wife, girlfriend, sportswoman, coach, every woman is plural and manages multiple tasks in a day, sometimes to a staggering extent.

V: What's your daily routine like and how do you start your day?

N: I don't really have a routine with my travels between London and Paris but I cannot live without an Earl Grey tea followed by an espresso and kisses from my husband and children first thing in the morning. A poached egg with avocado toast always tempts me and then it's on to emails, dashboards and the day begins.

V: What are your workspace essentials?

N: I'm a bit of a minimalist so I like a white or transparent desk with just my apple Macbook Pro on it. If possible, I like an open space with no walls around me and an inspiring view. From time to time, I'll light a candle like the La Française Sympa.

V: Which books are by your bedside right now?

N: The Love Dictionary of Freedom by Mathieu Laine and a pile of documents. I usually have books on all kinds on business topics. I've recently been reading the 2018 Goldman Sachs Millennial Insights study.

V: Who are some of your favourite fashion designers?

N: Chloé by Natacha Ramsay Levi, Diane Ducasse and always Saint Laurent.

V: What about your 'can't live without' websites?

N: I'm probably more into apps than sites. I use Yoga Studio for my yoga routine, Lumo Lift to help with my posture, Paleo Leap for paleo recipes, Les Echos, Elle, Bloomberg and of course Whatsapp, Instagram, Uber and Deliveroo.

V: What's your motto or favourite quote?

N: “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.” You must have ambition and persevere on your journey.

It’s no secret that in the world of interiors maximalism is set to be huge for FW18 and well into the New Year. We’ve bid farewell to minimalist Scandi style and settled our sights firmly on a more eclectic, cozier set of trends for the seasons ahead.

You can interpret the maximalist trend in plenty of ways but one of our favourite iterations of the trend has to be the luxe rock’n’roll look. Think dark and vibrant tones with flashes of color, print and texture thrown in.

Animal prints, gallery walls, plush velvet and nods to your favourite artists are all encouraged as are hints of gold and silver to add depth against tonal black, grey and deep-blue walls.

The perfect mix of glam styling and home comforts, try mixing and matching your artworks and accessories and always mix vintage with contemporary designs for a considered yet relaxed vibe.

The maximalist home décor trend isn’t going anywhere so we’ve created an edit of the best pieces to help infuse your space with the spirit of rock’n’roll…

Generally taken to mean understated elegance and rustic charm in the world of interiors, Wabi-Sabi is the Japanese concept of perfect imperfection.

The idea of things being transient or incomplete is a hit with those that like their homes to look lived in and a Wabi-Sabi aesthetic is the perfect way to achieve this.

We’re looking to the following tips on how to channel Japanese aesthetics in your home for autumn and winter…

Rustic surfaces

Think unfinished plaster, unrefined wood and concrete. Clay, terracotta and cracked tile are also great ways to channel the trend, giving an air of simplicity, peace and nature undisturbed.

Natural materials

Wood, stone and earthenware objects and items of furniture are both in keeping with the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic but also speak to Japanese design sense in general. Think about the four elements and try to incorporate all of them in your space.

Imperfect objects

Ceramics, artwork, rustic benches and soft furnishings made from linen and woven wool are all perfect for transforming your living area or bedroom into a cosy space for the cooler months and nailing the Wabi-Sabi approach to imperfection.

Neutral tones

Bright colours are a no-no when it comes to this trend. Keep things natural, minimalist and pared back with cool grey, white, oat and earth tones.

When you imagine the impossibly luxe decor of your dream home, there are no doubt a few brands that spring to mind. We all have our favourites for luxurious linen, sleek furniture and unique artworks for that gallery wall but when you’re on a budget, it’s not always easy to get the look you’re dreaming of…

We all know that Groupon makes it easy to enjoy huge discounts on activities all over the world, but did you know that Groupon also offers next-level discounts on homewares, furniture and accessories? The perfect brand to shop with if your home improvement fund’s tight, Groupon is our go-to for making a space look high-end on a budget.

We looked to our panel of experts for four fail-safe tips to help you transform your space and put together a selection of our Editors’ favourite pieces direct from Groupon, perfect for elevating any room in your home.

Trick of the light

Keep things light and bright to create a greater sense of space. With pale greys and whites in the mix, you’ll have a fresh foundation to build on. Add mirrors to increase the depth of the room and reflect the natural light from your windows.

Colour theory

Choose a simple palette and stick to it. Like greens or pinks? Go for muted tones and mix them up with your simple white and grey walls and pieces of furniture. Next choose a luxe accent colour like copper or gold and pick out a few accessories in this tone.

Texture flex

The secret to making a room look more high end is to layer textures while retaining a minimalist look and feel. Do this with textural fabrics, woodgrain, rugs and cushions. You can also opt for tactile bed linens, one-off pieces in rich velvet and smooth metallic surfaces.

Add greenery

A well-placed plant can make a room and sometimes fresh flowers, a potted houseplant or a tropical tree can really elevate a space. Consider the colour palette in your room and opt for plants that will complement it or act as a neutral component in the room.

Ever spend hours scrolling through gorgeous homes on Pinterest wishing you could totally transform your space? You’re not alone. Whether you rent or own your home there’s always room for improvement but nailing that luxe look can be expensive.

Any interior designer knows that it’s not about the space itself but how you dress it so to save you time, money and to spare you those jealous feelings, we looked to our panel of design experts for five fail-safe home hacks to elevate your space in a matter of minutes…

Monochrome

Black and white colour schemes are considered classic for a reason. Sleek, simple and enduringly stylish, opting for striking furniture, artworks and accessories in fresh white, grey and black tones is an easy way to make your home look luxe.

Metallics

Equally, a few shimmering accents in gold, silver and copper have the power to lift a monochrome colour scheme and lend a room an opulent feel without being too over the top. Keep things pared back and opt for metallic lighting, picture frames or accessories like vases and candles for a luxurious finish.

Artwork

Never underestimate the power of art. No matter the size or style of your space, a gallery wall can totally transform a room. Group a few framed prints of varying sizes that play on a single palette together and dot a few around the room for an effortlessly polished look.

Accessories

If your furniture’s a little on the boring side, you can luxe things up with a few well-placed accessories in no time. Stack beautiful books on your coffee table, fill stylish vases with fresh flowers and scatter plush cushions on your sofa.

Minimalism

Finally, remember the rule that less is more. It’s easy to assume that filling your space with beautiful things will make it look fancier, but in reality, the sleeker, sparser and tidier a space, the more luxurious it looks. Keep things minimal always.
