Picking up where the Golden Globes left off with another black dress Time’s Up protest on the red carpet, actresses attending last night’s BAFTAs turned to statement jewellery to really set their looks off. More specifically earrings that glinted and sparkled under the glare of camera flashes and the eyes of the world. Diamonds were understandably popular- they are a girl’s best friend after all and if you can’t wear them on the red carpet, where else can you show them off with security nearby just in case? Angelina Jolie’s chandelier earrings were a departure from her usual understated style but they pushed her dress and classic make-up into dazzling territory.

A pop of green via gorgeous emerald stone settings were an unexpected alternative. Lead by the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge who wore a matching earrings and necklace set, Saoirse Ronan, Gemma Arterton and more put green jewellery back in the spotlight, a move Jennifer Lawerence cemented when she presented the first award of the night ‘Outstanding British Film’. We also saw great examples of chain link and dramatic black tassel earrings we’re itching to try out too.

To really hammer home their message of action and solidarity with women facing injustice and sexual harassment, actresses like Jolie and Naomie Harris brought female activists along as their dates. And Best Actress winner Frances McDormand utterly stole the show (no mean fest with Joanna Lumley as host) dead-panning her witty acceptance speech; and she pledged her support for her 'sisters in black', despite not completely complying with the dress code.

Shop the key earrings styles we saw in our edits below for your next formal event.

Fashion Week is so much more than style. During fashion week we get an inside look at the hair and makeup trends that we'll be sporting all next season. On a few lucky occasions like this years’ New York Fashion Week, it also reflects a shift in society on the very definition of beauty. This NYFW was bursting with a sense of change that was embracing activism, and celebrities that were more disrupting than your average celeb bunch.

From the breast cancer survivor Erica Hart, who walked at the Chromat show in a slip dress that was gracefully showing off her scars to the ten-year-old drag kid Desmond Napoles, who walked proudly at Gypsy Sport. To accommodate to this celebration of inclusivity and uniqueness, makeup and hairstyles were extravagant, rebellious and bold.

EYE FOCUS

The focus currently has shifted towards eye makeup featuring over the top looks such as black lashes and plastic bug eyes á la Gareth Pugh. There was gold glitter at Ulla Johnson and smoky eyes at Tom Ford or Alice + Olivia who traded the liquid eyeliner for a smudgy eye pencil. The eyeshadows surrendered to a rainbow effect with graphic edges in shimmering colours of pinks and purples. While Kate Spade opted for diamonds carefully glued on the models’ eyelids.

SUBVERSIVE HAIRDOS

When it comes to hair, the trend was all about spray products using all the essentials to create a  wet look. The accessories were over the top featuring 80’s leather headbands, throwback claw clips and irreverent updos put together with an army of hair gel.

BOLD LIPS

Whether it's two-tone pink and red lipstick, a healthy glow so extreme you're basically applying moon dust to your skin, red was a constant. The classic crimson lip became a powerful pout painted in a carefree fashion of individuality, whether it was in liquid form at Chromat or matte at Bottega Veneta.

HAIR DYE

Objecting to the single hair colour trend of seasons past, bold as they may have been, this time it was all about strategically placed streaks. The models at Sies Marjan wore pinks and blues while green and blonde short dos was also a trend at Marc Jacobs. Which of the makeup trends will you be trying this season? Shop all the beauty and hair essentials from our expert edit below!

Take a moment to appreciate the best beauty looks of New York Fashion Week AW18 with us. Because Fashion Month is so much more than just clothes and this was our first chance to check out the hair and makeup trends we'll soon be sporting next season. As with the collections and shows themselves, which celebrated rebelliousness, inclusivity and uniqueness, the shift in society regarding the definition of beauty was reflected boldly and extravagantly.

Here are four of our favourites!

EYE FOCUS

It seems more is more again by the extravagant eye makeup choices on the NYFW catwalks. Ulla Johnson’s models have their eyelids dusted with gold glitter, while Tom Ford presented his own take on sexy smoky eyes, and Alice + Olivia traded liquid eyeliner for smudgy eye pencil. The eyeshadows surrendered to a rainbow effect with graphic edges in shimmering colours of pinks and purples at Oscar de la Renta and Anna Sui. We can’t wait to DIY Kate Spade’s eye makeup: sparkling diamonds carefully glued onto eyelids.

SUBVERSIVE HAIRDOS

The main trend was wet look hair, created by sprays that worked on every texture as seen on the Row catwalk by hairstylist Eugene Souleiman. The accessories were pretty maximalist: with 80’s leather headbands, throwback claw clips and irreverent gelled updos among the best of the bunch.

BOLD LIPS

Red was a colour constant, even when paired with pink for two tone lips. And it was masterfully set off with a healthy glow so extreme it will look like you applied moon dust to your skin. This classic crimson became a powerful pout, although painted in a carefree fashion, in liquid form at Chromat and matte at Bottega Veneta.

HAIR  DYE

Swap the single hair colour of seasons past, as bold as it is, for strategically placed streaks. The models at Sies Marjan wore pinks and blues, while green and blonde short dos made an appearance at Marc Jacobs. Which of the makeup trends will you be trying this season? Shop all the beauty and hair essentials from our expert edit below!

Dua Lipa's obsession with itsy bitsy tops is nothing new so it came as no surprise when for her first appearance on Saturday Night Live she appeared in a crop top. Her year is turning our to be monumental. After releasing her self-titled album last summer she officially became 2017's biggest debut for a female artist in the UK and crossed the pond appearing in late night shows like Jimmy Fallon. During SNL, she performed "New Rules", and "Homesick", while Natalie Portman hosted.

Dua Lipa's style has evolved but she was always graced with effortless elegance. She knows what works for her and she incorporates it into her wardrobe while picking up a few trends. For example, for her onstage look she went for a chic and glam look featuring a floral cream crop top - similar to her trademark bra and bralette choices, small jewellery and high-waisted vinyl trousers with green strappy heels. Her dancers were equally glamorous dressed in glossy robes.

If you want to show off your abs like Dua Lipa there are more than a few styling options that you can discover and shop from our expert edit below!

2018  is all about mood-boosting fashion. From glam beauty to sparkly sheer dresses, metallic boots and silver or gold details the moto is life-celebratory. That joie de vivre is especially captured in the recent dress trends for 2018, that even though they are emerging during the cold, dreary winter months there's absolutely nothing dreary about them. So if you're on the lookout for uplifting mood-enhancing frocks you came to the right ... season. Try them with tights, ankle boots, flats or thigh-high creations. Sport them with minimalist accessories or extravagant numbers like feather earrings or studded boots. Just have a look below to find out how you can sport the new dress trends this season without fail!

BRIGHT HUES

The trend for bright bold colours emerged a few seasons ago with the 70s resurgence. But lately, the colour palette of the seventies ranging from khakis, brows but also bright shades like ultraviolet, aqua blue and mustard yellow has focused on the latter. Take your pick of moss greens, reds, blues, orange, and purple. Try them with neutral accessories and don't hesitate to combine them, for example, take Jeanette Madsen's cue for a green and orange combo.

POLKA DOTS

The trend for polka dots blew up last year with most influencers posting a shot of them in a patterned number. This year the trend has incorporated a puffer sleeve to the mix such as over at Isabel Marant and Rejina Pyo. Try them with a pointy pair of white ankle boots and some gold accessories for that elusive 2018 twist.

WINTER FLORALS

What's the difference between Spring and Winter florals you ask? It's all about the fabric. Opt for a rich fabric like velvet, or corduroy and opt for patterns that carry a vintage vibe. They feature wallpaper patterns, ruffled shoulders high necklines. In other words, Victorian chic at it's best.

We're in the midst of Scandi obsession. Last week the Swedes took to the streets of Stockholm celebrating mesmerising Scandi Style at Stockholm Fashion Week. While now it's all about Copenhagen. The city trademarked by the mermaid, fish and for us Ganni, is showcasing the best of International Fashion talent this week and we wanted to dedicate this instalment of I Like Ya Style to one of the best curators of Scandi Style. We're talking about fashion editor and stylist Jeanette Madsen.

Contrary to the limited view of Scandinavian style - meaning monochrome minimalism, Madsen proves that the secret to maintaining the Scandi aesthetic is about investing in great basics. One of her ways of showcasing her individual style by staying true to her Danish roots is by adding bold shades of colour. For example, Jeanette often plays with unexpected colour combinations such as pinks, reds and blues for a more joyful end result. She avoids anything dreary so grey, navy or black is a no no.

1. Staying in line with trends she paired a cobalt blue jumper with a seafoam green pleated skirt and draw the outfit in by adding a white T-shirt and white boots. The tonal head-to-toe blue combo was juxtaposed by a poppy orange clutch.

2. For a soft look Jeanette pairs a blush pink blazer with a lemon yellow pair of suit trousers finished with a gold chain JW Anderson crossbody bag.

3. Keeping in line with trends, Jeanette sported the red and pink combo pairing her pink H&M trousers with an oversized Miu Miu sweater.

4. When she wants to go after a demure colour palette she still manages to pair colours and adds a playful item. Take her camel teddy bear coat for example, that she styled with a camel coloured blouse dark denim jeans, and ankle booties.
