We’ve come to the conclusion that hair slides are seriously underrated as an accessory. Used to clip back a pesky fringe or to decorate an otherwise ordinary hairstyle, Alexa Chung and cult film character Margot Tenenbaum are the poster girls for this off-beat look. The witty words Ashley Williams' have spelled out in crystals have made great streetstyle fodder in recent seasons and it’s now Simone Rocha’s pearls styles that are nestling on the heads of some of the world’s best dressed women. Besides Chung, who’s been spotted out and about at London Fashion Week wearing more than one at once; presenter Laura Jackson is a big fan and wore a pair for her wedding. Pandora Sykes has snapped herself wearing one on Instagram and we’ve noted that what they all have in common is a penchant for jaunty lobs (long bobs). But Solange’s ’A Seat at the Table’ album artwork proved that hair slides will wow in hair of a longer length depending on the arrangement.

Now that it’s getting warmer, we’d suggest swapping your woolly hat for a eye-catching hair slide. No other jewellery is needed and you can give your ears a rest from heavy statement earrings and build your look around it. Start with one: the more you add, the more attention and compliments you’ll attract. Wire kirby grips are the answer if you’d like to take an ultra minimalist approach- hide tonal ones in your hair and be a little bolder with metallic or bright colours. The fact that they are comparatively cheaper than other accessories is a big bonus and, as size does matter, make sure your hair can hold the slide in place. A spritz of hair spray will help if needed.

La grande terrasse couverte au rez-de-chaussée est the place to be.

Dover Streer Market :

The Ned :

The Curtain :

Pour faire un peu la fete, cap sur the très select The Curtain, dans le quartier branché de Shoredich. Niché en haut de l'hotel du même nom, le club est connu pour ses soirées aussi glamour qu'animées.

When the 90s began, the "supermodels" were born. Girls like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista - who said they did not get out of bed for less than $ 10,000 a day - took the catwalks and attention of the world with their looks from another planet. This week marks the 100 year anniversary of women first winning the vote in the UK. And while much has changed since 6 February 1918, the fact that there’s a plethora of feminist fashion and literature available and multiple women’s marches staged in recent years suggests the spirit of the suffragists is still very much alive. These women, unlike the radical suffragettes who were more militant and resorted to violence (Emily Davison died after walking out in front of King George V’s horse at the 1913 Epson Derby), campaigned to win the vote peacefully. The combination of tactics worked and these days women are campaigning for gender equality and protesting against issues like period poverty and sexual harassment in powerful ways.

Besides donating money and joining marches, there are other ways to share your beliefs and solidarity with fellow women. We’d suggest reading up about the history of the suffragists and suffragettes, women's rights and feminism; and fashion wise, slogan t-shirts are probably the easiest way to share your thoughts as they’ll effortlessly go with what’s already in your wardrobe. There’s bound to be one that reflect your thoughts and you can discover the protest garment’s 20th century timeline and impact at an exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum which opens today. Dior’s ‘We should all be feminists’ t-shirt, inspired by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s essay and Ted talk, is arguably the most famous and the fashion girl choice, and the audio featured on Beyonce’s ‘Flawless’ track. The word and terms ‘feminist’ (which so loaded you may have to justify yourself to onlookers when wearing it), ‘girl power’ and ‘grl pwr’ feature on a range of stylish pieces and accessories too. We’d also recommend making the Spice Girls your current soundtrack, given their still very relevant #girlpower message, and you can add empowering quotes to your home decor.

Don’t get your hopes up when it comes to the latest Spice Girls reunion. Yes they’re back together, and we have the instagram snaps to prove it, but they’re not going to actually sing or release any new material. Sad Face. According to the Guardian and The Sun, Baby (Emma Bunton), Sporty (Mel C), Scary (Mel B), Posh (Victoria Beckham) and Ginger (Geri Horner) have accepted £10m each for a deal that might include ‘television in China, a new talent show, a second greatest hits compilation and a variety of endorsement deals.’ Just when we needed new #girlpower anthems more than ever, and the original kind from the original ‘90s trailblazers, they’re not going to give us any. Regardless of whether the announcement is more money fuelled than nostalgia fuelled, we’re excited to see them back and don’t they look well? Oh well, it’s back to rinsing their Spice and Spiceworld albums and another Spiceworld film marathon is in order.

While we wait to see how the Spice Girls circa 2018 plays out, we can keep paying homage to the girl group sartorially. The ‘90s fashion trend shows no signs of dying which means the styles they wore in their heyday 20 years ago are still hot. If you’re a sucker for a black slip dress, you’re subconsciously channelling Posh, if it’s white or pink Baby, and Mel B helped make Doc Martens so streetwise. In fact she was wearing cameo cargo pants before Destiny’s Child did in the Survivor video. And with the Brits later this month, who can forget Geri’s Union Jack dress? But arguably Sporty’s look is currently the most influential with everyone from Kim Kardashian to streetstyle star rocking sportswear and statement sneakers.
