Even the smallest outdoor space can be transformed with a lick of paint, a few well-placed accessories and some TLC. Whatever your budget, we looked to the experts for the the best hacks to  jazz up your garden or patio for summer.

Upcycle old furniture

Take your old pieces and repurpose them. Tables, chairs, even an old ladder can be used as a chic set of shelving to showcase your plants. Think big Want a lush green garden but don’t have much space?Just start with potted plants. Take a planter for small spaces and fill it with stones, greenery and decorations.

Invest in a fire pit

Make the most of your deck by turning it into a cosy hang-out area. Bring a fire pit onto the scene or create your own with the space beneath your patio table. This way you can still enjoy you summer days outside without compromising on space.

Multipurpose pieces

Invest in a table and chairs that you can use to put your feet up and enjoy a sangria on a sunny day but that can also stack away easily or be used to  show off greenery and store useful items.

Get a mini bench

Try a slim piece seating to fit against a wall. Top it with throw pillows, plants or a cool night lamp to add a layer of interest This way you can add a corner full of character without taking up too much space.

Last year we saw an array of jungle and tropical-inspired prints, flamingo hues and metallics in the most photographed homes in the globe. This year, however, designers are opting for a little less frivolity and choosing warm, cosy colours with the power to make a home a true haven.

Try our pick of the big interiors trends for 2018…

Rich tones and hues

Even though grey is still among the designer favourites, colours are richer this year, whether on furniture, walls or bedding. Moody colours – such as violet, navy and emerald green – are taking centre stage. For richness,  opt for velvet accents to show off the hues.

Dark wood

Furniture is turning to the dark side this year, stepping away from the pale Scandi-inspired woods of seasons past. The darker shades infuse a space with a sense of vintage glam and work beautifully against metallics. Add a fusion of walnut, gold, brass or marble for the perfect amalgamation of natural materials.

Wanderlust

Exotic cities influence interior trends when it comes to carpets and accessories. This season, go for earthy shades of clay, terracotta and ochre and mix your textures. Add a few plants and channel a tropical cabana in your living room.

Artisanal touches

Just like fashion, interiors are all about natural textures this season. The handmade feel is gaining ground with materials such as rattan and linen stealing the limelight. Try adding natural and handcrafted pieces to your home for a luxe touch. Are you ready to infuse your tired digs with new life?

From modern Miami apartments to London’s art deco dens, metallics are back on our interiors radar for SS18. We love the precious metals trend and to be honest, we’re pleased it’s here to stay.

Filling your home with accessories that sparkle and shine can be tricky – you don’t want to go overboard and end up with Santa’s Grotto, nor do you want to go too low key and risk your luxe touches being overlooked.

We’ve put together a list of useful tips on how to work the metallic trend in your home – whatever your room size, taste or budget…

Mix your metals

More is more with precious metals so don’t be afraid to mix warm tones like coppers and yellow golds together. Similarly, cool colours like silver and white gold work wonders when paired in the same room.

A trick of the light

Elevate your shimmering additions by placing them near bright windows and cosy lamp-lit corners. This way, your metallic pieces will help to lend the room a wonderful sense of depth and texture. Copper-framed mirrors are great for this.

Perspective is everything

If you can’t quite commit to a copper coffee table, try grouping rose-gold accessories together to create the illusion of a larger presence in the room. If, on the other hand, you’re ready to go big, let your metallic furniture speak for itself and avoid crowding it with other metallic pieces.

Be yourself

You can find just about anything in gold, silver and copper tones so pick out pieces that reflect your personality and use our styling tips to lend your room a luxe touch.

Want to try the precious metals trend for yourself? Explore our edit below…

If you want to make a bold statement, go for a bow lamp, or for an utterly decadent option, choose a globe chandelier in frosted glass. For industrial urban elegance, opt for a discoco pendant that consists of a series of lacquered discs that float around a chromed semi-sphere. The result is a distinct and unique light which fills and enriches any space.
Get on trend with metallics or marry vintage with modern and go for a Marimba LED pendant.

If you want to restructure your bedroom go for a Worth Bed - a Japanese-inspired style with a low profile hardwood frame. This dreamy look is complimented with a split headboard containing a center seam amplifying its elegance and harmony.

For a modern design your choice ought to be the Copeland Furniture Astrid Bedroom Collection! The design is an engineering feat, with improbable deep splayed legs creating a particularly dramatic cantilevered effect. The angular base and solid hardwood construction are featured in all of the Astrid beds, nightstands, and dressers.

Interior design is one of the most satisfying things to try out, especially when you move into a new home. There's nothing better than choosing styles and furniture that suit your personality to a T. So here are a few suggestions to really get your inspiration going! • Try designing a room using only three colours. Using one colour can be boring and make a room feel quite plain and not as homely; however adding an extra colour or two can really bring that little bit more vibrancy. Obviously choose colours that match or compliment each other well. Personally, I would go for grey, a light purple/violet and silver. • Try a vintage inspired look. There are thousands of beautiful pieces of vintage furniture out there and putting them all together will add character to your house or a particular room. One feature piece that I love is an old vintage type writer! • Decide whether you want wallpaper or painted walls. This can be a tricky decision as some types of wallpaper can be a little full on when they cover an entire room. In this case, you could choose to have one wall as the feature wall, this being covered in your chosen wallpaper, and then the rest of the walls painted. Again, make sure the colour of the paint suits the wallpaper. • Pick a theme. It is always nice to have some type of theme within a room. This could be based on a colour, or the type of furniture, or even an era. You might decide that you want something quite floral, or abstract, but again it depends on the room you are designing. At the end of the day the decision is up to you so be creative! Photo credit: Pinterest

When it comes to choosing a rug for the living room or bedroom can be quite daunting and the deciding factors vary. The size, style, colour, weave of the rug but also your needs and size of the room you like to place the rug will inform your choice of carpet. But don't worry it's time to make your living room warm and cosy without breaking the bank.

Here are the main factors you need to consider:

Best fibres

Wool carpets are very durable and warm, so perfect for winter. Polypropylene is very resistant to staining and wear. Polyester is very resistant to fading and easy to dry while jute is a natural fibre rug and work well in rustic style interiors.

Your Personal Needs

So you've picked the right fibre, but what is the purpose of your living room rug? Are you anchoring some furniture, placing it in the centre or unifying the room?

What's your Household like?

You have to decide on a rug that best fits your lifestyle and household. Even if the design is great if the rug isn't practical than it won't work.

What's your space like?

If you'd like to sit on the floor than you should aim for a thick carpet, if you just want to decorate the room, thickness doesn't matter.

What's your style?

Lastly, you may want to think about your personal style and combination in your flat. Are you more into classical off-white surfaces because bold colours suffocate you. Or are you looking for funky bright designs that make you smile?

Still undecided? Take a look at our gallery for more inspiration and shop your favourite rug styles from our edit below!
