The countdown to Valentine’s Day is on so whether you want to reveal your feelings to your crush, spoil your partner-in-crime, or make things more permanent with an unforgettable proposal, Jewel Street should be your first port of call. You won’t find any generic designs, only exceptional, one-of-a-kind pieces hand-picked from over 600 independent brands worldwide. From classic diamonds to contemporary metal, stunning settings to meaningful words, rose gold to silver, you’re bound to find a ring, pair of earrings, necklace or bracelet the person you have in mind will love. Heart embellishments are anything but cliche and boring here and better yet, you’ll spring to mind whenever they wear it. Forget flowers and/or chocolate- no matter how expensive or hard-to-source, they are ultimately temporary tokens that die or get eaten whereas a special piece of jewellery lasts forever.

It’s best to start small and manage expectations if this is a newish relationship or you’re hoping your gift will lead to one. You can save, spend or splurge and we’d recommend a vintage-looking bracelet or an on-trend pair of earrings- say chandeliers or hoops- that reflects their taste so they’ll show their piece off at every opportunity. Colour is very important too as they’re unlikely to wear silver if all their other jewellery is yellow gold. The more time you’ve been with your partner, the more they deserve to be spoiled don’t you think? A decorative necklace will more than fit the bill, especially if it’s bold but understated enough to wear everyday and never take off.

If you’re going to propose, make sure you’ve done the groundwork by sizing up their ring finger, speaking to their friends, and asking their father if you’re being traditional about it. There’s a wow-factor selection of engagement rings with stones of various sides and shades, along with promise rings if you’re not ready or simply want to reaffirm your love. And for goodness sake: keep the actual ‘Will you marry me’ simple; don’t risk losing or damaging the ring by slipping it into a dessert or champagne glass for effect. It’s not unheard of to have two rings when you do it either, the additional one can be smaller but no less stunning for knocking about.

Valentine’s day is very much geared towards women don’t you think? Flowers, chocolates and jewellery are typical gifts you’d probably like more than the men in your life, but that’s not an excuse not to treat them to something as well. After all, they deserve declarations of love and cool tokens of appreciation just as much as you do if they’re treating you right, and you don’t want them to feel like they’re being taken for granted. So think outside of the box about how you can really surprise him this year.

Maybe it’s a statement shirt or classic knit they’ve had their eye on but haven’t bought yet or a much needed wallet upgrade; this is your chance to show you’ve been paying attention. And if you’d like to go down the novelty route with a heart motif or a pink and red colour palette, do in a tasteful way- say on socks or cult Converse or even rose gold cufflinks for special occasions. Toast your relationship with a bottle of his favourite tipple and he’s bound to be happy with some new headphones for his morning commute or a fitness tracker to monitor his progress in the gym.

Oh, this dress is what valentines day fashion is made of. I definitely would wear this dress for an elegant daytime date with my boyfriend. The cut of the dress and the beautiful red flowers takes my mind to dolce vita nights in Positano. would you wear it? Photo Credit: @dew21lana on twitter #trend #valentinesday #look #fashion

Gifting chocolates and roses on Valentine’s day is standard. Something sweet for your sweetheart makes sense, although they may be less than impressed if they’re religiously watching their waistline. Ah well cheat day it is. Because if you’re lucky enough to be gifted a box of chocolates, it would be rude not to try any (and finish the box to eliminate any further temptation). Don’t worry, your secret’s safe with us. And isn’t it so lovely to receive a beautiful bouquet of red roses? Especially at work with an audience even though they're are unlikely to last more than a week. They’ll add a splash of colour and a lovely fragrance to your home, conjuring visions of springtime ahead.

Never fear, we’re here to help you flip the script if it all sounds a bit too cliché. Chocolate-wise, rather than buying a generic box last minute from a nearby supermarket; spend a little bit more for treats from a chocolatier and widen their horizons with an unusual flavour among their favourites. When choosing their flowers consider this: do they actually like roses? If they do or you don’t have much time, fine and consider adding different colours and species to jazz it up. But don’t add fuel to the ‘Valentine’s day is nothing more than a hallmark holiday’ brigade if you could get them a bunch of different flowers they’d prefer. Peonies are pretty popular.

I know, I really don't post not related beauty and fashion content But I find this photography a piece of art. I find it very poetic how the person is watering the flowers even when they look dead. I would definitely frame this photo and put it in my apartment like home decor. Like a reminder that you still need to keep going even if you feel like falling out. Okay, so the argument goes that Valentine's Day is just a commercial rouse to encourage us to spend money on overpriced flowers and underwear. But hey it's another occasion that involves chocolate and a lot of pink. Millennial pink, as I've discussed in previous looks, is still the colour of the moment. I love this incorporation of millennial pink and glitter (two of my favourite things) in nail art. This is really feminine but the darker glitter and almond file give it a little edge. Another Valentine treat we don't need to spend more money on, but probably will - I for one am not complaining. Image: Elle

The new collection Resort 2018 by Carolina Herrera is to die for. Herrera is synonymous to elegance, and this new collection only corroborates what is probably one of its most exceptional characteristics. Elegant and fresh in this case thanks to a lively colour palette and designs full of flowers that have conquered us. Credits: Pinterest

When’s the last time you sent or received an actual Valentine’s Day card? As opposed to an e-card, text and the usual flowers/jewellery/chocolate galore?  Back in school we're assuming and, as the big day’s two weeks away tomorrow, it might be time to bring back the charming and thoughtful ritual. Actions do speak louder than words but rather than trying to express your feelings materialistically, a hand-written declaration of love or affection will be more cherished and sentimental. It’s an analogue reminder that romance isn’t dead and there is a card for everyone these days- whether you love a cheesy cliché or your humour’s wittier and sarcastic (just make sure the recipient’s on the same page). And the other key advantage of sending a Valentine’s Day card rather than a gift (although you could send both as you would on a birthday) is that they tend to be under a fiver plus postage. All you have to do is ensure it arrives by the 14th February by post or hand delivery.

On the flip side, the response to a Valentine’s Day card depends on the person and the precedent already set. If this is your first holiday together you’re golden, but you can’t go from spoiling someone rotten to giving them just a card and not expect them to feel a certain way about it. Some people genuinely adore chocolate and flowers so it would be a shame not to give your love what they love; and if you know they’re simply going to open the card and throw it away: it may not be worth the bother. Our heightened environmental consciousness may throw up the e-card as a smart alternative to the paper, card and potential glitter involved; but that means your sweetheart will have nothing to physically put up and display.

This time of the year is perfect for all of those endless afternoons of hibernating. This is a difficult task if our homes are messy or don't reflect our personal taste. After you read our post on the Mari Kondo way of tidying up, think about purchasing a few items to revamp your space! Sure we might live in small flats but aesthetic shouldn't be influenced by that. Take the fashion influencers for example, as they pose for their individual ootds, they give us glimpses of a home decor that perfectly defines their style. So how can you quickly elevate your flat you ask without breaking the bank?

Here are a few items you'll need:

The Rug
Opt for a cool snuggle-friendly rug you can throw to the floor. It will give your room a sense of your style and much-needed character. Plus it's the perfect alternative to a carpet that can quickly get dirty and weary.

A Marble Table
Oh yes, that fabulous material has been the perfect sidekick to any influencer flat lay shot that appeared in 2017. Apart from your Insta snapshots though, the table is practical and looks amazing IRL.

The Throw
Remember when you used to hang paintings and posters on the wall? How drab. Go for a colourful throw instead for an artsy taste of hygge to your space.

Flower Power
Scratch that posters will do. True magic lies in fresh flowers. Just ask Pandora Sykes and Leandra Medine.

Sheets
Go for a blush pink or violet shade to bring femininity and relaxation to your bedroom.

The Full Mirror
Well, how would you take those morning ootd's without that mirror? Opt for the squiggle one for that extra character.

What should a flower girl wear? Should you be getting married or should you be a wedding planner, this is a very common question when it comes to bridal fashion. Make sure the flower girl’s dress reflects the mood of the wedding without contrasting the bride’s wedding gown. #wedding #bridal #fashion

This eye makeup look is stunning and is the perfect look in anticipation of Spring. The winged eyeliner is complete perfection, the colours warm, and I'm loving how the gold glitter matches the nails! And what could be better than flowers in symbolising the upcoming season? #spring2018 Credit: PrettyLittleThing Facebook
