2018 has been a huge year for trends - we've seen so many come and go and while we've been avid fans of some, others left us shaking our heads in bewilderment and disbelief.

Whether you're a fearless experimentalist or prefer to play it safe, there will always be a handful of fall trends that return year after year and boy, do we love to rely on them...

The brown leather tote

Everyone and their grandmother owns a brown leather tote. It's a fall staple and an enduringly cool and reliable piece. Whether you opt for a classic shopper or a more directional silhouette, a mini or an oversized style, this baby complements anything and everything.

A pair of statement earrings

Costume jewelry trends come and go but a go-to pair of oversized earrings is always a winner. Play with this season's resin and beading trends or keep things classic with statement gold hoops or a structural silver design.

Something velvet

Velvet and fall are a match made in sartorial heaven. Luxe, lustrous and the perfect way to jazz up your day-to-night look, opt for something in bright gem tones a lá the Gucci gang.

Something in animal print

Every year we hang up our spots and stripes for summer and get excited when fall hits and it's time to rock them again. Faux-fur coats are always equal parts edgy and elegant and who doesn't love a statement print?

Something studded

In fall it's entirely permissible to channel your inner goth and studded accessories are a must. Think embellished bags and studded western-style boots. Or if you're not prepared to revisit the fashion faux pas of your youth, toughen up your look with a pair of iconic Rockstuds by Valentino.

ue and lilac are truly stunning.   I also really like how it could work very well with the belt or without the belt.  ¿Would you wear this dress for summer? Photo Credit: @shayla on Twitter  #outfit  #dress #summer #look  This photo has three outfits but only one of them, I like. The third one at the right lacks definition on the beautiful curvy silhouette of the girl. Maybe with a good belt, it could be a winner.  The one in the center, I mean, the dress is beautiful but I wouldn´t pair it with that hat. The dress is very romantic and the hat is kind of edgy. If the girl would have an updo or some nice relax waves on the hair, again a winner.  And now the winner, the one in the left. Everything is right with this outfit, the gorgeous plaid against the white, the hat, the little clutch. I would name this look expensive summer days.  ¿What´re your thoughts on this three outfits photo credit: @telva on twitter. #look #fashion #streetfashion #trend

Mules have been a go-to item this season for autumn and summer alike. As we kick off the new season with Memorial Day Weekend we're definitely going to be rocking ours. We've rounded up the best ways to rock mules this summer and a few things to consider...

Denim allure

A pair of quality ankle-skimming jeans with leather mules is a combo made in heaven. Add an oversized leather bag and a jacket for a cool layered effect.

Proportion game

Don’t be afraid to go for dainty mules while sporting a voluminous jacket on top. Fashion is becoming more practical see trainers and dresses  to suit both your sartorial and comfort-based cravings so don’t feel the need to dress your mules down…

Sock alert

Mules can be a little tricky at times, especially if you’re on the move all day. When all else fails, a sock is the best option for shoes that are just too good to give up on. Go for statement socks featuring metallic accents, glitter, slogans, or classic fishnets to give your mules an edgy twist.

The past season designers have been showing an act for the artisanal. Over the last year, runways were filled with crafty handiwork that came from peculiar embellishments: from quilting to crochet.

Jonathan Anderson knits dominated his Fall 2017 menswear show, while Jeremy Scott created bodycon dresses for his Resort collection. Other designers opted for crochet miniskirts and polo shirts during a Spring 2018 outing. We absolutely love the offbeat and experimental attitude of the material that allows for an array of mixing and matching options.

How to style crochet?

Pair a jumper with a leather biker jacket to emphasize the juxtaposition between the '60s silhouette dress and the edgy jacket. Add a fetish choker for effect or a knit-top handle bag and a pair of front-button track pants and sneakers.

Kick back in a crochet overlay with your monokini and a summer basket bag with slides for a comfy-chic beach look. Add some bamboo-inspired accessories with beads to fully immerse in this look.

From golden hoops, as seen on Bella Hadid, to ear cuffs, once a punk accessory and now a classic, we love embellishing our ears in intricate and beautiful ways. Our jewellery is a way of self-expression, exploring our style.

Layering jewellery is not new: ring piles, wrist stacks, multiple necklaces were everywhere this winter. But now, it's the earrings turn. The trend made its way into mainstream as the perfect and unexpected adornment, seen on stars such as Rihanna, Jennifer Lawrence or Zoe Kravitz, to express all your potential. The key method to master earrings layering is called ear curation.

First, you might think comparing your ears to an art exhibition is a little bit crazy. The trend consists in picking earrings that will match your ear shape and personal aesthetic, and usually, in the process, get new piercings that will make it all work together. This trend emerged in late 2015 in NYC and is more than ever relevant.

An expert in the question is Maria Trash, a jewellery designer and body piercer set in NYC and London. Her Instagram is full of her famous clients, such as Chloe Moretz, and of her own designs. She will usually examine your style, the metal colours you like, to master the art of layering earrings. Choose to go from small earrings a the top to bigger ones, such a statement piece at the bottom for example.

Stacking on piercings is a perfect balance of feminine and rebellious and will transform any boring outfit into a memorable one.  Express your edgy side with mismatched ears. Boho, punk, classic, minimal, match your tastes with your jewellery. And if you're afraid of needles, designers thought of ear cuffs and crawlers to enjoy the trend pain-free.

If you're looking for new and unusual ways to wear earrings, from tiny diamonds studs to mismatched statement earrings, shop our edit below now!

New York Fashion Week runs from today until next Wednesday, February 14th following the Men's collections February 5th- 8th. However, this New York Fashion Week is different than the rest. It's following on a wave of changes that was initiated last season when Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Altuzarra and Thom Browne moved their presentations to Paris. Tome's Ramon Martin and Ryan Lobo also joined the pack of designers leaving New York for Paris. While the controversial collaboration of Rihanna's Fenty x Puma received many accolades and the quintessential American spirit brand of Ralph Lauren hosted his show in his Bedford garage. This season more designers are striking on their own accord while two are coming out of town.

THE OUT-OF-TOWNERS

Tomas Maier is celebrating the opening of his Madison Avenue store and is visiting his Bottega Venetta show from Milan to New York for one season. Maier's move makes sense since the fresh air being infused into the collection abides by the New York edgy and youthful sensibility. Esteban Cortazar - the boy wonder from Paris, formerly creative director of Emanuel Ungaro, is moving his show from Paris to New York.

THE DEPARTURES

Ever since Alexander Wang announced that he's moving #WangFest to a June/December schedule there are more designers evading the conventional Fashion Calendar. Wand staged several street parties in September and will present his final show on the official schedule this Saturday before moving with his plans. Marchesa's Georgina Chapman after filing for divorce from Harvey Weinstein and Keren Craig cancelled their runway show in favour of a more low-key event. Delpozo and Victoria Beckham are switching New York for London, Tome traded New York for Paris while there will be no Fenty x Puma show. Many others Public School and Baja East switched to straight-to-consumer, Burberry and Mansur Gavriel wanted to a see-now-buy-now model while Rebecca Minkoff and Lela Rose opted for Instagram shows instead of IRL ones.

FASHION WEEK STAPLES

But still, it's New York fashion week Marc Jacobs whose latest collection was featured on the cover of American Vogue is closing the show. While Raf Simons is presenting both his third collection for Calvin Kein and also showcasing his own menswear brand. Tom Ford is showing two separate collections Women's and Men's. We're anticipating Coach, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta and of course Jeremy Scott! We're also expecting a breath of fresh air from newcomers (to the NYFW runway at least) Eckhaus Latta, the powerful subversive duo, and the American - Australian Matthew Adams Dolan, a denim aficionado and Rihanna favourite.

THE FROW

As with designers, there has been a thinning of big celebrity sightings too. This time last year Katie Holmes, Jennifer Hudson and Lucy Liu sat at Zac Posen alone, for example, and by September, the significant celeb snaps were confined to those of a pregnant Jessica Alba and Jessica Seinfeld. And all for a good reason. According to The New York Times, in the practice of pay-per-pose, an A-lister like Angelina Jolie could command close to $1 million per show. As expected Tom Ford kicked off NYFW AW18 with a guest list that included Ciara and husband Russell Wilson, Pusha T and Halsey. Jessica Alba is a Tory Burch veteran so she’ll probably be there, ditto for Zoe Kravitz at close friend Alexander Wang’s show. Rashida Jones is a fan of  Rachel Comey, actress Chloe Grace Moretz has been a COACH regular in the past and may even show up to the Victoria Beckham show (she’s currently dating Brooklyn Beckham). Olivia Culpo and her New England Patriots player boyfriend Danny Amendola are scheduled to make an appearance, according to E! Online. And from the music scene: Solange Knowles Tinashe and Teyana Taylor may all show up. As far as street style trendsetters are concerned: Yasmin Sewell, (heavily pregnant) Leandra Medine, Lisa Aiken and Linda Tol are all safe bet sightings and women to follow on Instagram if you’re not already.

Stay glued to Shopcade for more #FashionWeek updates and speaking of sticking to that New York aesthetic, shop our favourite NYFW designers via our expert edit below!

One of the most peculiar trends out there at the moment that actually work are the sports socks/ heels combo. Ever since Vetements turned socks into a luxury item, we haven't looked back. And if you don't want to pay the designer sock hefty price tag fear not. Many influencers go for high street brands or even sporty ones from the likes of Nike and Fila.

You can don them with heels for an extra loud effect or pair them with your basic sneakers and loafers. Take cues from Clueless and Cher for more inspiration! Another huge trend of the season is undeniably the sock boot, so why not try to recreate that look with a pair of thigh high socks and boots.

Go for a pair of edgy Dr. Martens boots or a sleek pair of ankle boots will also do the fashionable trick! And most importantly the socks will make you feel warmer, which is all we need during wintertime. A comfy warm outfit that does not compromise on style!
#18181f" face="Helvetica Neue">
The fashion pack took notice and contributed in absentia in the creation of multiple variations. Statement socks can be athletic think Vetements, Fila, Nike, they can look eye-poppingly patterned like Marni or Prada. They can be absolutely plain like the ones Rei Kawakubo employs against intricate designs for Comme des Garcons.

Ricaardo Tisci goes for knee legth black or white socks for Givenchy. The street style stars have took this statement sock trend to heart - though for years it was considered a major faux pas.

Bags are probably my fav accessories, without the right bag I feel like my outfit is incomplete. So what stands out to me, on this gorgeous winter white outfit was the definitely the bucket bag. I really love their design with the studs, it really gives an edgy touch to such a clean outfit. Photo Credit: @whowhatwear on twitter #style #winter #fashion #outfit #trend
