COS has long been a style set staple – from Bauhaus-inspired accessories to impossibly soft cashmere essentials and ultra-cool oversized silhouettes, the brand’s designs always hit the sweet spot between effortless cool and minimalist elegance.

There’s a lot to be said for the COS approach to gendered dressing too. It’s styles are androgynous, oversized or tailored to perfection – ideal for back to school season and lazy girl office attire.

Now that fall has arrived we’ve been keeping our eyes peeled for simple staples to make layering up that little bit easier. Naturally, COS is our go-to for this.

The brand’s Fall/Winter18 collection blends cool neutral tones with textural wool, felt and leather while sticking to those modernist silhouettes we all know and love.

Drawing inspiration from the shapes found where architecture meets the forest and sea, the collection was shot by photographer VIVIANE SASSEN. Textural contrasts give the impression of rough industrial surfaces juxtaposed with fluid natural lines.

Black silk is the hero of the collection with dresses, pants, blouses and jackets taking centre stage. The beauty of these pieces is of course that they can be layered with just about anything for work, the weekend and beyond.

We’re filling our closets for the cooler season to come and we’ve also created an edit of our favourite COS pieces.

As we've reached November our minds are already turning to Christmas. This is truly the best time to indulge in picking out partywear for the season ahead. From sparkly dresses, to sequinned tops, floor skimming skirts and embellished blazers we're constantly coming up with new ways to make a statement...

Styling is key for party dressing. Try investing in one party dress that you love, while playing with different styling ideas. You can belt it and add definition to your waist, wear it with a pair of chunky ankle boots sparkly accessories and tights.

Try a velvet party dress in an emerald hue, one of the most prominent trends of the season with heels and an oversized blazer. Opt for a sequinned flapper dress and pair it with a structured coat for a killer party season look.

Whatever your style this season, remember to wear your most flattering accessory: your smile, and have an amazing time.

The best time of the year for dresses 🙌🙌

The fashion landscape is always changing but a new trend has been making especially big waves over the last few years. Back in the day, renting designer fashion was something one might do for big events, some people often opt to rent their wedding dress – hello thrifty – but lately we’ve seen a big spike in the popularity of rented garments…

Brands like Rent The Runway, founded by entrepreneurs Jenn Hyman and Jenny Fleiss, offer affordable designer fashion for a fraction of the retail price and unsurprisingly, it’s a big hit.

‘We wanted to create a company that allowed women everywhere to feel their most confident and beautiful for all of their occasions’ say the pair. ‘People feel like they’re getting this awesome Cinderella experience. In a small way, we feel like we’re changing people’s lives in a great and really fun way.’

A boom in renting high quality pieces means in the coming years there may be less demand for fast throwaway fashion, ultimately making the clothing industry more sustainable and boosting the popularity of well-made pieces that last.

Now, with party season on the way, we’re looking to Rent The Runway for everything from statement dresses and jumpsuits to glittering accessories and designer bags.

‘The holiday season is the perfect time to experiment with trends and step outside of your comfort zone, so we’ve stocked up on sequins, embellishments, lace and bold prints’ says Jenn.

Every month we compile a list of all the pieces, trends and brands we’re wearing, loving and adding to our wish lists. From everyday essentials that have been keeping us looking fresh for the new season to statement pieces we’re saving our pennies for, here’s everything on the SC radar for October…

Checks, stripes, florals and animal prints – this season is all about print and pattern. We’ve been shopping for checked jackets and cool jacquard trousers, boho floral maxi dresses and leopard-print minis.

Of course, the biker jacket is an October staple and due to this month’s strange and changeable weather, we’ve not left the house without ours. Plus, it’s boot season and there’s not a single pair of autumn boots that doesn’t go with a leather jacket.

When it comes to accessories we’ve been loving tan leather in the form of shoes, bags and belts and layered charm necklaces in warm gold and rose-gold tones.

Simple jumper dresses and men’s shirts in autumnal hues have also been our jam this month – think textural pieces in fine cord, denim and pink chambray.

Move over leopard print, it’s zebra’s time to shine. This print is officially the next big thing, playing up to our love of monochrome and print and putting a playful twist on the classic stripy jumper for autumn.

Not to mention floaty maxi dresses, faux leather minis and the coolest-looking zebra-print boots we’ve ever seen. We want zebra-print everything and we want it now.

Our editors looked to the high street and our favourite high-end retailers to pick out the very best pieces in this gorgeous pattern. From blouses to winter boots, the zebra print edit is a feast for the eyes.

Things move quickly in fashion, every month there’s a new trend to dissect, a hot topic to discuss and a ton of rumours to dispel, but some things are harder to forget than others…

The must-have pieces we fall in love with and add to our wish lists here at SC become obsessions and they’re different for every member of the team.

This month we’re enjoying a lull after the frenzy of fashion week, giving us plenty of time to browse and shop for the pieces we’ve been lusting after of late.

October is obviously boot season and the team are head over heels for classic black ankle boots, on-trend white booties and of course, leopard and cheetah-print styles. Obviously some of us love our faithful flats so there are plenty of coveted designer sneakers on our list too.

Bags embrace classic black, fall tones and traditional silhouettes and jewelry is dainty and peppered with sparkling stars, diamonds and studs.

Printed jackets and cute boho dresses complete our fall fashion line-up and we’ve placed them all in an easy-to-shop edit below. Save your favourites, add them to your own wish list and browse our gallery for styling tips.

Homages to the ‘70s may be dominating the high street this season but there’s one ‘80s throwback that’s fast becoming a firm favourite too.

White boots are having their moment and we’ve spotted them on all our favourite influencers and street style stars. Whether you favour a classic ankle boot or a statement over-the-knee style, consider an iteration in optic white for AW18.

Putting an effortlessly cool twist on our usual go-to boots for work and the weekend, everyone from Stuart Weitzman to Chloe has offered up a bright-white pair with anything from studded detailing and a chunky sole to pointed toe and lace-up front for extra interest.

Team your white boots with slim-fit jeans, printed skirts, midi dresses and those must-have wide-leg cords. Or if you’re heading out, don a cool mini and a leather jacket for instant style cred.

When we think of ‘sensible shoes’ we generally don’t think high fashion, unless of course you were into the brief appearance that Crocs made on the runways of yesteryear. We can’t say we were fans…

AW18 has been good to us with chunky lace-ups and hiking boot-inspired styles touted as the coolest shoes to invest in for the new season. The ideal blend of form and function, we saw hiking boots on the AW runways from Gucci, OFF-WHITE, Ganni and Jimmy Choo to name but a few.

The high street followed suit with the likes of Topshop and Urban Outfitters creating their own more budget-friendly offerings, and we’ve seen great options online by TRENDEO – the little-known go-to for designer dupes – too.

Warm, weatherproof and easy to wear, the humble hiking boot is here to address all our sartorial winter woes. Plus, they go with just about everything. Team yours with anything from jeans and pleated skirts to boho dresses and sleek shift silhouettes.

We’ve picked out our favourite styles for every budget so you can give the trend a try for yourself. Shop the best hiking boots from the edit below…

Wave goodbye to sunshine yellow and millennial pink because a new season is here and it’s all about muted, earthy tones for AW18. Cool autumnal hues include burnt orange, sandy oat tones and of course, olive green.

A staple for this time of year a green military-style jacket is a sure way to lend your look a touch of effortless cool – see the likes of Kate Moss, Olivia Palermo and Anine Bing for outfit inspiration.

Olive green is one of those hues that goes with just about everything in your wardrobe, from casual jeans and shirts to sleek dresses and statement prints.

Team a green jacket or shirt with leather trousers and a cool pair of snake-print boots or put a twist on the tone by pairing classic camo with blush-pink sneakers and accessories for a contemporary colour clash.

The perfect colour to invest in for autumn through to winter, olive green is set to become our go-to from now until the New Year.
