By now you've probably noticed the beauty trend dominating Pinterest and Instagram. Your cheat sheet to achieving that dewy, radiant skin all year long without much makeup is a highlighter that complements your skin tone and is becoming a beauty staple essential as blush of eyeliner.

How to choose the best highlighter for your skin tone...

Fair skin tones

For those with a light to pale complexion, it's best to opt for highlighters with a pearlescent gloss. The light pigments add enough radiance to your skin tone without washing you out. Stay away from shades that are too warm or too dark to avoid a heavy faux look.

Medium skin tones

If you want to wake up your skin opt for a highlighter with peach or gold undertones. This slight hint of colour is perfect for achieving a very natural sun-kissed glow. Add a bronze or gold eyeshadow and a nude lip to instantly look like a summer goddess.

Dark skin tones

For those with a darker skin colour go for a rich variation of rose gold or bronze. Make sure to opt for make up options that pack in lots of pigment and stay away from opalescent hues that might make the skin look grey. Mix your highlighter with your foundation to give an all over summer glow and apply a vibrant red lip for a show-stopping look.

Summer is on the horizon and let’s face it, our penchant for palm trees is still going strong. In fact, we’re embracing the tropical trend and going full cabana with rum on the bar cart, tropical tunes in our headphones and warm-weather plants filling up our living rooms.

But hold on just a second… Lest you want your home to look more like a ‘60s themed hotel suite, there are a few rules to follow when opting for this trend in your home. Our Editors have put together a few simple tips on how to nail the look, whatever your budget and no matter the size of your space.

Unless you love that kitsch, busy look, go for a single print and stick to it. Palm print wallpaper is a great way to channel the tropical trend and some of the world’s coolest designers have created their own signature versions. Keep the rest of your room pared down for a sleek contrast.

Mix up your textures. Things are going to look a little over the top if all rattan everything is your rule. Instead, mix dark woods and maybe a little velvet for a cool, plush finish. Add a rattan chair or screen for a cool Cuban twist.

Use accessories to your advantage. Create a sense of sunshine with big, light-reflecting mirrors, metallic accents, cool cushions and cocktail glasses.

Invest in some house plants to complete the tropical look – don’t worry if you don’t get on with real plants, there are some great faux options available which are much more manageable and look great.

Create a chic summer look at home and indulge in a little staycation with the picks from our edit below…

Florence Welch recently made headlines all over the world as she sang tracks from her new album High as Hope at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Once again, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine proved her skill not only in song and stage presence, but with her signature theatrical boho style – something we’ve always loved about her.

During the Chanel AW2015 show she conquered the red carpet in a blush-pink pantsuit with eclectic accessories and a huge black fedora hat. While at Erdem she appeared in an emerald-green feather coat, complementing a pair of dark-wash jeans.

A gal truly inspired by the '70s, Florence isn’t afraid of bold print and rocks anything from psychedelic swirls to chintzy florals. Sporting gowns with billowing capes – like that gorgeous custom Gucci column gown she donned for Chime for Change – this singer always wows us with her maximalist style. F

or accessories, Flo seems to love a fringed bag or teeny, tiny clutches. She's a fan of silk scarves, unique headpieces and of course, dangling bohemian earrings.

Drew Barrymore shows us here how to work a dark lip on sunny days with this classic 90s pairing of a vampy lip colour and white ribbed vest. The burgundy pops against the white whilst, dressing down a classic evening lip, the casual tee allows you to effortlessly transition from day to night. Wear without mascara for an even grungier, nonchalant look. [photo cred: instagram]

Last year we saw an array of jungle and tropical-inspired prints, flamingo hues and metallics in the most photographed homes in the globe. This year, however, designers are opting for a little less frivolity and choosing warm, cosy colours with the power to make a home a true haven.

Try our pick of the big interiors trends for 2018…

Rich tones and hues

Even though grey is still among the designer favourites, colours are richer this year, whether on furniture, walls or bedding. Moody colours – such as violet, navy and emerald green – are taking centre stage. For richness,  opt for velvet accents to show off the hues.

Dark wood

Furniture is turning to the dark side this year, stepping away from the pale Scandi-inspired woods of seasons past. The darker shades infuse a space with a sense of vintage glam and work beautifully against metallics. Add a fusion of walnut, gold, brass or marble for the perfect amalgamation of natural materials.

Wanderlust

Exotic cities influence interior trends when it comes to carpets and accessories. This season, go for earthy shades of clay, terracotta and ochre and mix your textures. Add a few plants and channel a tropical cabana in your living room.

Artisanal touches

Just like fashion, interiors are all about natural textures this season. The handmade feel is gaining ground with materials such as rattan and linen stealing the limelight. Try adding natural and handcrafted pieces to your home for a luxe touch. Are you ready to infuse your tired digs with new life?

Continuing with my spur of the moment ASOS spree with this ASOS midi skirt. I've been questioning over and over what to wear in this in between weather without forking out for a new wardrobe for this non-season. The perfect solution seems to be the midi skirt. We aren't quite ready for mini skirts and t shirts but the midi skirt is the perfect in between. The florals instantly suggest spring whilst the dark colours are in sync with the muted weather. I think that jewel tones eyeshadows look their best on girls with dark eyes.  This emerald smokey eye is mesmerizing,  making me believe that this theory of mine could be true.  photo credit: @shayla on twitter  #beauty #makeup  #browneyes #look

It's back. The festival that created its own unique dress code is returning this weekend and if you're one of the lucky show goers we have a few tips for you. Packing for Coachella doesn't have to be a daunting task. You don't need to acquire a Native American headdress to impress. In fact, avoiding fancy dress and going for a chicer approach will make more of a statement. So assuming, you’ve already sorted out your luggage, we’ll help you with the packing.

Do's and don'ts when packing for Coachella…

Don't bring a one-piece

Jumpsuits and bodysuits look cute but they’re a no-no at a festival, as you'll be stuck in long toilet cues and you'll have to change in and out of your one-piece. Instead, go for the simpler version with a bralette, cut-off jean shorts and western-style booties.

Do light layering

Considering you'll be faced with the adverse weather of the desert, see-sawing between high and low degrees it's best to resort to layering. Wear your swimsuit top, with a flowing skirt or denim shorts, your booties and a kimono or denim jacket for after dark.

Do practical bags

Backpacks and cross-body bags are your safest bet come festival season. You can store larger items with ease: say your water bottle, SPF, phone and deodorant while leaving your arms and hands free to fist pump and dance the night away.

Don't do sandals

We know the model pack often strolls the California polo fields in sandals which looks adorable during the day but not so practical during the gigs. Instead, go for cute white sneakers or ankle boots that will elevate your outfit and keep your toes safe at the same time.

Do glitter make up

Add some extra sparkle by adopting the festival look without going full unicorn. Some stick-on gems, glitter eyeshadow and shimmering lip balm will leave you looking fresh and ready to party. Avoid heavy eyeliners and dark eyeshadow as they tend to smudge in the heat.

Editor's Pick: Add a dab of self-tan before you hit the festival for an extra glow. Just remember to wash your hands immediately after applying it and stay away from stain-prone clothing like your whites and crochet bikini tops.

Now you're done and ready to party the weekend away! See you in the fields…

Boho is set to be big this summer but if you’re not ready to go for full-on pom poms and prairie dresses, how about trying a hint of fringe instead? The sleeker, subtler sister of a full-length boho frock, fringed dresses take cues from tasselled garments from way out west.

Look to Christian Dior's collection for cowgirl-inspired pieces, Loewe for knotted T-shirt dresses and Bottega Veneta for ‘60s-style mini dresses adorned with rock’n’roll leather fringing. Want the look for less? Why not try a simple iteration from Mango, where you’ll find fringed panelling and hems for SS18 – perfect for festivals and sunny days.

An easy way to infuse your look with a touch of eclectic cool, designers are opting for fringes and tassels to elevate simple looks to new heights this season. Team yours with simple accessories like leather ankle boots, a minimalist clutch or a pair of barely-there heels to let the detailing take centre stage.

From swinging tassels on day dresses to glittering sequinned threads and flashes of eyelash lace for after dark, fringing is in and here to stay.

Whether you're a fan or not unicorn makeup is having a serious moment. Long associated with music festival culture it describes anything pastel or holographic applied with some elementary school enthusiasm. The key theme here is fantasy and creativity and the freedom to interpret it as you wish. Today we have one more reason to sport this uncanny makeup as it's National Unicorn Day which is celebrated in the US and the UK, so it's the perfect day to get out the glitter and immerse in anything rainbow.

Many brands and beauty companies are taking their piece of the pie by releasing countless unicorn products from brushes to palettes and colours. If you simply search Unicorn Beauty you'll come across a series of iridescent, and fantasy-inspired goodies.

UNICORN MAKEUP TUTORIAL

Everything starts with a great blank canvas, so begin by applying a base to smooth and clear your complexion. Next, take that concealer to cover dark circles and treat blemishes. Use your fingers so it's absorbed better from the skin. Now it's time to throw on some shades. Don't be colour shy. Using a blue pencil apply it to the back of your hand and transfer to the corner of your eye towards the middle of your lid. To set it, go over each colour with the same shade of powder with a fluffy blush.

Take an iridescent shadow to draw along the inner corner using an eyeliner brush. Now take a pink eyeliner pencil and draw along the bottom waterline. Define your eyes with a swipe of black mascara on top lashes and use a bold blue for your bottom lashes. Now that you're done with your eye makeup put it all together with a candy pink lipstick that works well with most complexions and also with whichever hue you may choose for your eyes.
