On the first Monday of every May we eagerly await the red-carpet glam squad who’ll assemble at the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The annual costume gala is only a few days away and we're buzzing with anticipation.

This year the Gala will be co-hosted by Amal Clooney, Donatella Versace and the undisputed queen of red carpet events, Rihanna – we’re still not over the train on the mustard Guo Pei gown she sported in 2015. The theme for the 70th anniversary of fashion's biggest fund-raising event is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination; a pretty controversial subject in comparison to past themes.

China: Through the Looking Glass, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, Punk: Chaos to Couture and of course, last year's Rei Kawkubo: Comme des Garçons were among the iconic themes of Galas past. This time, Fashion and the Catholic Imagination will focus on religious depictions showcased across three galleries including the Met Cloisters.

The exhibition will feature 50 pieces from the Sistine Chapel – including robes, rings, tiaras and other accessories from the 18th to the early 21st century. As for fashion, guests will be treated to a viewing of 150 religiously-inspired ensembles from houses like Balenciaga, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, and of course Versace.

Remember when we were obsessed with pink? Millennial pink to be exact. Okay so some of us, *ahem* me, are definitely still obsessed. However, it seems it's time to move onto Gen Z yellow. That's right there's a new generation-led colour on the catwalks. This is clearly the perfect summer colour, or at least one that might bring the sun back out. It can be infused into anything be it a tea dress or a co-ord, you're sure to find something to slide into your wardrobe. Image: Getty/John Francis

My last Coachella look had to be this pastel peach dream. Again a co-ord proves it can't be beaten. I am obsessed with the colours here - the ideal summer combo. The style of the slightly structured two piece with the boho scarf thrown over is a beautiful summer styling technique. The scarf brings the co-ord into the laid back festival vibe perfectly. Who doesn't love a co-ord? I get very excited when it gets to summer and I can start seeking new two pieces. They are endless style fun and easy to mix and match with clothes you already have hanging up. I just love this two piece. The cut of both pieces is fab. the neck line is very flattering and a great length of crop with the high waisted trousers. I like that the trousers and flares but they aren't quite fitted. A denim jacket thrown over is all the outfit needs to be complete. Image: Getty Images

Blogger Erika Bowes is wearing an outfit which is just so cool and stylish. This co-ord look is simple yet effective - perfect for the hot weather at the moment. The thing that interested me most about this look was her choice of accessories here. The shoulder bag is so unusual and really makes the outfit pop! #ootd #erikabowes #bloggerstyle Photo Credit: @erikabowes on Twitter

Another Coachella look I loved was this on Devin Brugman, one half of Monday Swimwear brand with Tasha Oakly. Devin has worn some amazing outfits at Coachella but this is definitely my favourite. The co-ord is by LA designer Lovers and Friends and I just love it. The white crochet is fab, perfect for a festival and the pom poms are such a fun addition making this outfit really pop. The bag complements these colours so well. If I can find a dupe for this I'll definitely be buying. Image: Instagram @devinbrugman

Although velvet is still having a moment in the spotlight, another seventies staple is taking centre stage: corduroy. And there's a large offering too for Spring, whether it's a jumpsuit, skirt or jacket. Contrary to popular belief, corduroy is not only a winter fabric. Like linen, it's quite adaptable to weather climate changes. The strong case for corduroy was made in the Prada show in Paris, while Isabel Marant also offered a touch of corduroy trousers with a 1980's twist.

The tomboyish appeal of the texture was picked up by Alexa Chung who incorporated it into her Alexa Chung collection, while Lemaire showed a rusty cord trouser suit. Gucci that holds the helm historically over the corduroy trend threw out pink flares, floral suits, and signature flippers. The past few seasons we've noticed that there has been a huge resurgence of trends, so it came as no surprise when corduroy made its way back to the catwalks, street style and ultimately our wardrobe. The high street also took notice. The new Stockholm- based fashion brand, The Cords & Co focuses on this material alone making it the corduroy's haven.

This fabric was extremely popular in the 70's especially by Jane Birkin and her bohemian - laissez-faire interpretation of the menswear staple. In the 70's resurgence of the late 90s corduroy was back in stock for both men and women. Nowadays we're seeing it not only in the form of trousers but also as a pinafore dress, and in many shades of pink, to burgundy, green, aquatic or in floral patterns.

STYLE TIPS

Pair a luxe corduroy suit with a white graphic tee for a smart casual outfit that will turn heads all Spring long.

Opt for a tonal approach by wearing a hoodie with a slightly lighter hue over your coloured corduroy trousers.

For a bold look, do a head-to-toe corduroy look. If the full on corduroy look makes you uneasy, match a detail like your socks, sunnies or a shade of your T-Shirt with that of you corduroy trousers.

Finally, you don’t have to settle for trousers alone. Choose a corduroy blazer, skirt, or even dungarees.

Are you ready to sport your corduroy look? Head to our gallery for more inspiration and shop our edit below!

For me the Kardashians aren't exactly fashion icons. Whilst I do find myself drawn to many of their fashion choices there are few I would emulate myself. That said I've been scanning their 'grams of their recent trip to Japan and I've been very pleasantly surprised. I love what Kourtney is wearing here, you can't go wrong with a denim co-ord and this dark blue denim looks great on Kourt. Khloe looks sassy in pink - I absolutely adore this coat. Her shirt is smart but her trainers are totally tourist casj. Image: Kourtney Kardashian's Instagram
