Wedding season is here, but if you’re not quite ready to give Meghan and Harry a run for their money – and let’s face it, who can afford to cater for 600 people? – you might want to consider a few shortcuts. We caught up with Fern Godfrey, Editor of the UK’s biggest Wedding blog Rock My Wedding, to discover her tips for planning your dream day on a budget…

What do you love most about being the Editor of Rock My Wedding? Rock My Wedding was founded by Charlotte O’Shea in 2009, when she was planning her own wedding, it’s grown hugely since then and we’re now a team of 10. I’ve been Editor at Rock My Wedding since 2015 and I absolutely love my job.

We get to share people’s love stories every single day, work with beautiful flowers and dresses, and champion incredible wedding suppliers with our directory, The List. The best bit is seeing the wedding photographs of brides who have read RMW religiously while planning their own weddings –- it’s such a great feeling.

What do you find are the most popular wedding themes?

We feature a lot of rustic luxe weddings -– industrial and agricultural buildings with lots of exposed brick and lofty beams, filled with flowers and candles. This theme works beautifully for weddings across Europe as we have so many incredible historic and working buildings to use. The weather in the UK doesn’t always allow for the amazing outdoor celebrations we feature from France, Italy and Spain, but all of the weddings we blog are amazing in their own unique way.

How can one plan a beautiful wedding on a budget?

If you want to save money while planning your big day, then the key thing is decide on what is important to you as a couple. If you chose the areas you’re going to spend on, then you can try to save on the others.

Do you really need wedding favours? Can you serve canapés as a starter and wedding cake as your dessert? Have you considered a Spotify play list rather than a band? Do you really need a pair of designer shoes? If flowers aren’t important to you, then use local foliage and seasonal blooms. The one thing we’d always recommend spending on is professional photographs and a film – these things will allow you to remember your big day forever and so they are the most important part.

Can you share any useful DIY tips?

We’ve created a couple of floral DIY’s for Rock My Wedding readers. The first is a chair back arrangement to take your seating to the next level. The other is for a classic flower crown – these are very popular with boho bridesmaids, especially at cool, rustic weddings out in the countryside, but you can use any kind of flower to achieve the look and feel you want. There are plenty of examples on the Rock My Wedding Instagram feed.

As an expert, what would you pack for a destination wedding?

As a wedding guest? A floral maxi dress, a wide brimmed hat and some sunglasses. As the bride? A soft and flowing gown, some pretty sandals and lots of Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder.

Yes, we're already reaching the mid of May meaning more sunlight, more time for exposed legs and a time for a slight change in wardrobe. These changes include footwear, and though we should be in sandals season, this time it's all about ankle boots and their many variations: Flat, heeled, leather and suede, print or plain.

FLAT

The flat ankle boot is probably the easiest way to be comfy chic. If you don't believe me just ask a few flat ankle aficionados like Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller. Follow in their footsteps and team them with midi skirts, long floral trousers or leggings.

HEELED

Part of your essentials are definitely a pair of impressive, leather heeled ankle boots. They are offered in a great variety of punky buckle boots, suede Western styles, vintage lace up booties, riding styles in metallics bright bold colours like red and purple but also look out for plain black, grey, brown or white.

Check our exclusive edit of ankle boots that you need to try this season!

Not literally blue eyes. Because even though we may want it so much, we just have to live with our same ol’ brown eyes…Yet, this season, celebs, bloggers and everyone who is someone is going crazy about a makeup trend. Blue eyeshadows! Either a electric blue mascara, light blue liner or turquoise eyeshadow. Anything blue is good. This style can turn any of your outfits into a statement. Just be sure to leave your lips nude! #blue #eyeshadow #makeup #eyemakeup #style #fashion #beauty

Every stylish woman worth her salt knows there’s no better way to elevate a simple look than with a classic Gucci bag, but Fifty Shaded actress Dakota Johnson was spotted rocking one that’s yet to dominate the fashion world.

It’s no secret that Dakota loves her Gucci so we were hardly surprised to see her carrying a tote with the signature red and green stripes. However, this style – the brown suede Re(Belle) tote bag – was something a little different. We love the way she’s paired it with a low-key grey cashmere sweater and cropped jeans. Simple black mules offset the bag’s detailing effortlessly and make this look super spring appropriate.

We have a feeling the Gucci Re(Belle) bag is going to be a big hit with the style set this season. Want to steal Dakota’s off-duty look?

How cute is this Louis Vuitton?! The classic brown monogrammed Louis Vuitton bags are fabulous and always will be but it's great to see pieces like this that are more subtle and understated. The LV clasp is the only aspect that harks to the brand and is very delicate and pretty. This is a perfect size for everyday and a muted colour that's bound to match everything. What's your favourite Louis Vuitton style? Image: Louis Vuitton

A burgundy makeup look is my favorite. This shade makes brown eyes and hazel eyes pop so much. And it looks more interesting and unique than the usual black eyeshadow smokey eye.  What's your take on smokey eyes? photo credit: @emanmakeup  #beauty #makeup #look #instagood

Bright orange lipstick is such a pretty and fresh shade for spring.  I feel that this kind of shade, bright ups the complexion of girls with medium brown or blonde hair.  Black hair girls and redheads would look better with a hot fuschia lip for this time of the year.  photo credit: @byrdie on twitter  #beauty #makeup #look #spring

We usually heard that colorful liners look best against brown eyes, but I'm loving the contrast between the icy blue eyes of the girl and the cobalt blue liner it looks so unique and beautiful. I also like how she pairs the liner with dusty and pastel pink eyeshadows, it makes the liner the main focus of the look and at the same time creates a romantic vibe to it.  Photo Credit: @kelseeyclarke on twitter #beauty #makeup #look #trend

I'm really loving this makeup look by @iluvsarahii A lot of people does bronzy smokey eyes, but I rarely have seen a look with also a fierce cat eye and a reverse liner in the water line.  I find also very appealing that instead of a regular nude, she went for a brown glossy lip. This shade can look so stunning on girls with tan skin!  Photo Credits: @brencharvy on Twitter #makeup #beauty  #look  #instamakeup
