Wow. We’re going to start by analysing Lawrence’s look at a photocall for her new thriller ‘Red Sparrow’ earlier this week objectively before we weigh in on the sexist row it provoked. Because we haven’t seen such a figure-flaunting, spotlight-stealing LBD since Liz Hurley’s vintage Versace safety pin dress in 1994; a point that’s been widely made by #10;http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-5412753/Jennifer-Lawrence-steals-style-Elizabeth-Hurley.html
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-5412753/Jennifer-Lawrence-steals-style-Elizabeth-Hurley.html

And even though the Oscar winner’s dress is also by Versace doesn’t have the same punkish hardware, talk about bootylicious! Lawrence defines her hourglass figure and shows off all of her assets at once thanks to plunging neckline and thigh high slit confidently and shamelessly. Kudos to her for that. Accompanied by smoky eyes, a single gold bracelet, single strap heels and unexpectedly windswept hair, she looks amazing.

The look is problematic for some, however, because Lawrence’s showing an awful lot of skin for a windy winter’s day and her male co-stars were well-wrapped up in comparison. To them, the situation seems to reinforce sexist stereotypes the #TimesUp movement is trying to dispel, despite the dress being black. New Statesman’s deputy editor Helen Lewis tweeted “This is such a quietly depressing (and revealing) image… True equality mean either Jennifer Lawrence getting a coat, or Jeremy Irons having to pose for a photocell in assless chaps” which subsequently went viral. But Lawrence herself gave the best clapback in a lengthy Facebook statement where she asserted her right to wear whatever she wants. “This is not only utterly ridiculous, I am extremely offended. That Versace dress was fabulous, you think I'm going to cover that gorgeous dress up with a coat and a scarf?” Touché. A woman after our own hearts. We’re loving Lawrence’s body confidence at the moment as this outfit follows the incredible plunging metallic gown she wore at the London premiere.

New outfit inspo? Going without one. The nude female form is this season’s hottest accessory. And no, it’s not objectification; quite the opposite, we’re taking back control after years of patriarchal sexualisation. Boobs are everywhere right now - sculpted on plant pots, printed on mugs, embroidered on sweatshirts - and boobs of every size, shape and colour. Never before has the female form been represented so beautifully than in the diverse medium of fashion. Brands such as Mude Threads (pictured above) even do commissions, so you can get your own figure sewn onto your clothes and wear it with pride for the ultimate feminist fashion statement. It’s the age of empowerment, women are owning our bodies, and we’ve never felt better. [Photo cred 📷: Instagram, @jazmoodie / www.mudethreads.com]

We’ve come to the conclusion that hair slides are seriously underrated as an accessory. Used to clip back a pesky fringe or to decorate an otherwise ordinary hairstyle, Alexa Chung and cult film character Margot Tenenbaum are the poster girls for this off-beat look. The witty words Ashley Williams' have spelled out in crystals have made great streetstyle fodder in recent seasons and it’s now Simone Rocha’s pearls styles that are nestling on the heads of some of the world’s best dressed women. Besides Chung, who’s been spotted out and about at London Fashion Week wearing more than one at once; presenter Laura Jackson is a big fan and wore a pair for her wedding. Pandora Sykes has snapped herself wearing one on Instagram and we’ve noted that what they all have in common is a penchant for jaunty lobs (long bobs). But Solange’s ’A Seat at the Table’ album artwork proved that hair slides will wow in hair of a longer length depending on the arrangement.

Now that it’s getting warmer, we’d suggest swapping your woolly hat for a eye-catching hair slide. No other jewellery is needed and you can give your ears a rest from heavy statement earrings and build your look around it. Start with one: the more you add, the more attention and compliments you’ll attract. Wire kirby grips are the answer if you’d like to take an ultra minimalist approach- hide tonal ones in your hair and be a little bolder with metallic or bright colours. The fact that they are comparatively cheaper than other accessories is a big bonus and, as size does matter, make sure your hair can hold the slide in place. A spritz of hair spray will help if needed.

If you’ve found yourself sweating in your winter coat recently or soaked through after a sudden downpour, it may be time to get a raincoat. Not an umbrella that’s easily lost on the tube and stands no chance in gale force winds; plus they’re also kind of annoying to hold when wet and sans bag to stash it in. Indeed, these lightweight saviours may be better associated with festival style but they really come into their own at this time of year when it’s still cold but slightly too warm for heavy outerwear. As lovely and cuddly as faux fur is, it definitely isn’t waterproof and can shed coloured hair all over your all-black look.

These raincoats are thin, waterproof outer layers that sit on top of all of the others- statement knits, hoodies, thermals, even a leather jacket- to keep you dry rather than warm. And better yet, some of them can even fold into small bags that fit into your handbag. We see no reason not to wear a raincoat everywhere as we transition into Spring and how we’re doing it this season is outlined below.

Picking up where the Golden Globes left off with another black dress Time’s Up protest on the red carpet, actresses attending last night’s BAFTAs turned to statement jewellery to really set their looks off. More specifically earrings that glinted and sparkled under the glare of camera flashes and the eyes of the world. Diamonds were understandably popular- they are a girl’s best friend after all and if you can’t wear them on the red carpet, where else can you show them off with security nearby just in case? Angelina Jolie’s chandelier earrings were a departure from her usual understated style but they pushed her dress and classic make-up into dazzling territory.

A pop of green via gorgeous emerald stone settings were an unexpected alternative. Lead by the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge who wore a matching earrings and necklace set, Saoirse Ronan, Gemma Arterton and more put green jewellery back in the spotlight, a move Jennifer Lawerence cemented when she presented the first award of the night ‘Outstanding British Film’. We also saw great examples of chain link and dramatic black tassel earrings we’re itching to try out too.

To really hammer home their message of action and solidarity with women facing injustice and sexual harassment, actresses like Jolie and Naomie Harris brought female activists along as their dates. And Best Actress winner Frances McDormand utterly stole the show (no mean fest with Joanna Lumley as host) dead-panning her witty acceptance speech; and she pledged her support for her 'sisters in black', despite not completely complying with the dress code.

Shop the key earrings styles we saw in our edits below for your next formal event.

Statement earrings are IN. They are the 'It' accessory of the moment and everyone is selling them. My favourites so far have been spotted dangling in #Zara and #Mango and on #ASOS (above - image from their website). Tassels are a need for these types of earrings but I am loving the pom pom addition too. They're cute and fun and can completely dress up an outfit.

This season the jewelry edit and the earring selection, in particular, has never been more exciting. Designers are offering a wide range of wondrous creations: from revamping everyday objects into masterful treasures, adding glitz and glam on party girl earrings, or even infusing mysticism in vintage looking majestic pieces. This season Céline, Stella McCartney and Michael Kors were only a few of the designers who presented a series of showstoppers.

The main styles that dominated the catwalks were ear cuffs that have successfully made the transition from a basic punk accessory to a jewellery classic as seen at Mulberry, Oscar de la Renta, and Saint-Laurent. Chandelier earrings were another great trend of the season, especially at Céline. The great news is that a statement earring can transform both a cocktail dress and a casual jeans and T-shirt combo.

The largest trend amongst designers were golden hoops in a vast array of colours, designs and embellishments especially at Alexander McQueen, Fendi and Michael Kors. The most impressive trend though was undoubtedly the mismatched route. Picking and mixing a silver hoop with a chunky gold number was especially popular at Marc Jacobs and Maison Margiela. The best thing is that you don't have to pay the hefty price tag to nail this look as any type of earring goes!

Have a look below at our exclusive edit of the earrings you need to own this season!
