Korean products have been dominating the beauty scene in the UK in recent years but for all the winning formulas and anti-ageing serums on the market, what you really need to know is how and when to use these products. Enter our ten-step guide to nailing your own K-beauty routine…

1. Start with an oil-based cleanser. This is your heavy-duty starting point – oil helps to penetrate dirt and make up on the surface of your skin and give you a fresh base.

2. Next opt for a foam-based cleanser. This second cleanse will ensure that your face is really clean so you can get to work on the next steps.

3. Using an exfoliator more than two or three times per week can be a little intense for your skin so be sure to give your skin a break from this step every other day or so.

4. Next realign your skin’s pH balance and calm any inflammation with a gentle toner.

5. Then apply essence – a K-beauty essential. Essence is a concentrated formula that promotes cell regeneration helping to prevent the signs of ageing.

6. For your next step you’ll want to apply your serum. Gently pat over your face.

7. Follow with a collagen-boosting sheet mask for 20 to 30 minutes.

8. Next apply a light eye cream to combat those lines and dark circles.

9. Your penultimate step is a healthy slick of hydrating Korean moisturiser.

10. And finally, who could forget sunscreen? Apply your SPF and you’re good to go.

I really love that Miranda Kerr has such a beautiful natural and romantic style for fashion and beauty. She always has rosy cheeks and lips and a pretty dress on. Sometimes to look natural is to look better. Also, i heard that her skincare line kora organics is bomb. Any of you have tried her products? #beauty #skincare #koraorganics #summer. photo credit: @mirandakerr on Twitter

Summer holidays are great – the sun, the sea, days spent swimming, relaxing and seeing beautiful places. Nothing beats a warm-weather vacation and not much can ruin one either, apart from maybe those photos of you with poolside panda eyes …

If you’re heading somewhere hot then opting for lightweight make up that won’t budge is essential. Minimal make up is always better in the heat but if you can’t kick the foundation to the curb for a week make sure you invest in a product that won’t be sliding down your face minutes after applying.

The same goes for eye make up – an award-winning waterproof mascara is a must for beach holidays and those all-important photo moments. Our beauty insiders recommend going for a mascara formulated for sports to ensure round-the-clock staying power.

Powders are generally a no-no in the heat so consider waterproof pigment pencils for your brows, lips and cheeks and finish off with a shimmering cream bronzer for a simple sunkissed look.

We’ve created an edit of beauty heroes for hot weather – so whether you’re heading off on holiday or just hitting the UK’s sunny beaches this weekend you can rest assured your make up will be on point from morning ‘til night.

A vacation means no worries, zero commitments and a break from the daily grind. However, there are some things you probably shouldn’t let slide while you’re away from home, skincare and haircare being two of them.

Excessive exposure to UV rays can really dry and damage hair so if you’re enjoying a week of relaxation in the sun, you’ll want to at least make a low-key effort to protect your hair. We’ve compiled a few ways to help keep your locks healthy all summer long...

Quick spritz

Just like your skin, when hair is exposed to the sun it becomes dry and damaged. The best way to protect it is by applying a UV protectant spray before you leave the house. Spritz through damp hair before you air or blow dry or apply liberally to dry hair – especially around your part and hairline.

Bandana babe

Keep your head, hair and skin protected from the sun with on-trend headgear. Simply wrap a cool bandana or silk scarf around your tresses, secure your ponytail with printed fabrics or go for a full head wrap in a knotted or turban style.

Serum smooth

Your after-sun routine should feature a moisturizing serum that you can apply from the roots to the end of the hair. Keep it in your hair for at least ten minutes and rinse thoroughly. Consider switching between a serum and a hair mask for damaged hair every four days.

Braid it

Another easy hack to keep your hair safe from the sun’s rays is braiding it when wet. Braids lock in moisture and are great for keeping your hair in place and ensuring you stay cool in the heat. Plus, you can channel those mermaid vibes when you take the braids out later.

Feeling tired, sluggish and not particularly summer ready? It could be your diet. We looked to our panel of health and beauty experts for a few simple hacks to help you feel healthier, happier and ready to get your glow on this summer…

Hydrate daily

Staying hydrated during the warmer months is so essential but often, we forget that we should be drinking a little more. To make sure you’re getting your daily H2O, invest in a cool bottle or fill a jug with water and keep it on your desk.

TIP: Add lemon slices for a refreshing alkaline, electrolyte boost and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper for better digestion and to stem your cravings for sugar.

Boost yourself

Drink green tea to refresh your body – matcha is great but if that’s a little intense, try a caffeine-free detox tea to reset your body and help flush out nasties.

Watch your portion sizes

Use small bowls and measure out your snacks too. Weighing bits and pieces out into little containers to eat on the go always makes life easier too, especially if you find yourself feeling hangry in the afternoons.

Cook with recipes

Follow health-giving recipes exactly, don’t add more or less of anything and invest in a few cookbooks with easy, filling and nourishing recipes you can come back to time and time again.

Keep a journal

This isn’t an excuse to obsess over food so don’t be hard on yourself, just try being mindful and record what you’re eating, how you’re feeling and whether you’ve had much sleep, exercised that day and so on. This will help you to find a balance and set realistic goals for yourself.

Use coconut oil

Not only great for your skin, this is a healthy fat that’s great for cooking with. Swap your vegetable oil for a dollop of coconut when you cook.

Get your greens

If this is a challenge for you try adding a sprinkle of spirulina to your foods, make green smoothies and juices to enjoy in the mornings or at lunchtime. You can also take supplements to keep your body balanced and stave off cravings.

We all want to follow a luxe skincare routine, buy the latest haircare products and indulge in an array of make-up goodies, but sometimes the cost can be off-putting…

After all, going for affordable beauty buys can be risky as you never really know what you're going to get. A higher price tag doesn't necessarily mean better quality so we asked our panel of beauty specialists on the best beauty steals. Here's their verdict...

For your skin

Never make the mistake of opting for something that could do your skin more harm than good because it’s affordable. Instead, look out for natural, spa-grade products at a reasonable price point. There are plenty on offer from brands like ESPA who specialise in simple skincare and wellness products without the hefty pricetag.

For your hair

Taking care of your hair from the root is important so don’t just buy an expensive shampoo and conditioner from the salon and be done with it. Invest in a collection of affordable products from a mid-range brand – we like Grow Gorgeous for this – and build a solid routine including scalp exfoliation, weekly masks, heat protector before styling and nourishing oil to finish.

For make-up

Buying make-up from the drugstore can be hit and miss. On the one hand you can end up with some great products that work just as well as those offered by high-end brands. On the other, some cheaper products tend not to work so well and are packed with ingredients that aren’t great for your skin.

For affordable make-up that’s comprised of natural or non-harmful synthetic ingredients our beauty panel agreed the place to go is The Body Shop. Their make-up and skincare range has expanded for all skin types in recent years and is perfect if you’re on a budget.   Ready to try our affordable beauty picks? Shop our exclusive edit below...

We all hear the word ‘blackheads on the regular but do we really know what it means? Blackheads are basically blocked pores, this much we know. But what’s blocking those pores?

Our pores generally become clogged up with an oxidized mix of oil and dead skin cells. This doesn't mean your skin is dirty it just means that the natural sebum on your skin has built up and mixed with the cells you don’t need any more.

The last thing you should do is cause damage by scrubbing your face too hard but if you’re unsure of how else to get rid of blackheads, worry not. We have a few tips direct from our panel of beauty buffs…

Try products with salicylic acid

Go for over-the-counter products that contain salicylic acid. You can opt for gels, toners, facial sprays or leave-on products to prolong your exposure to the acid inside. Don’t be put off by the word ‘acid’ either – salicylic acid is a gentle exfoliator that’s safe to use on the face, flushing pores out without the need to rub your skin.

Go for a retinoid

If your skin is sensitive this option might not be for you, however, if you can use one, a retinoid is a much more thorough option for refreshing your skin. If it's too much for your complexion, try a low-strength retinoid which is often more tolerable.

Try enzymatic exfoliators

Try a mask with papaya, charcoal, pineapple or clay as these ingredients will wash surface skin cells away more easily and invigorate the fresh skin cells beneath.

Give microdermabrasion a go

Microdermabrasion is a process in which a fine stream of tiny crystals are moved across the surface of the skin to loosen any dead cells, which are then vacuumed away. This is a great option if you suffer from very clogged skin.

Moisturize your face

All of these methods can put your skin through a little stress, so after every procedure, don’t forget to continue washing your face and moisturizing. It's important to maintain your skin’s moisture balance with daily care.
