When we think of ‘sensible shoes’ we generally don’t think high fashion, unless of course you were into the brief appearance that Crocs made on the runways of yesteryear. We can’t say we were fans…

AW18 has been good to us with chunky lace-ups and hiking boot-inspired styles touted as the coolest shoes to invest in for the new season. The ideal blend of form and function, we saw hiking boots on the AW runways from Gucci, OFF-WHITE, Ganni and Jimmy Choo to name but a few.

The high street followed suit with the likes of Topshop and Urban Outfitters creating their own more budget-friendly offerings, and we’ve seen great options online by TRENDEO – the little-known go-to for designer dupes – too.

Warm, weatherproof and easy to wear, the humble hiking boot is here to address all our sartorial winter woes. Plus, they go with just about everything. Team yours with anything from jeans and pleated skirts to boho dresses and sleek shift silhouettes.

We’ve picked out our favourite styles for every budget so you can give the trend a try for yourself. Shop the best hiking boots from the edit below…

2018 has been a huge year for trends - we've seen so many come and go and while we've been avid fans of some, others left us shaking our heads in bewilderment and disbelief.

Whether you're a fearless experimentalist or prefer to play it safe, there will always be a handful of fall trends that return year after year and boy, do we love to rely on them...

The brown leather tote

Everyone and their grandmother owns a brown leather tote. It's a fall staple and an enduringly cool and reliable piece. Whether you opt for a classic shopper or a more directional silhouette, a mini or an oversized style, this baby complements anything and everything.

A pair of statement earrings

Costume jewelry trends come and go but a go-to pair of oversized earrings is always a winner. Play with this season's resin and beading trends or keep things classic with statement gold hoops or a structural silver design.

Something velvet

Velvet and fall are a match made in sartorial heaven. Luxe, lustrous and the perfect way to jazz up your day-to-night look, opt for something in bright gem tones a lá the Gucci gang.

Something in animal print

Every year we hang up our spots and stripes for summer and get excited when fall hits and it's time to rock them again. Faux-fur coats are always equal parts edgy and elegant and who doesn't love a statement print?

Something studded

In fall it's entirely permissible to channel your inner goth and studded accessories are a must. Think embellished bags and studded western-style boots. Or if you're not prepared to revisit the fashion faux pas of your youth, toughen up your look with a pair of iconic Rockstuds by Valentino.

The runways at London Fashion Week didn't fail to dazzle, though that was largely due to the sheer scale of the accessories showcased for SS19. Chandelier earrings, glittering necklaces and heavily embellished bags featured across the board.

With the coming season's trends firmly established, we've rounded up a list of the pieces you'll be seeing everywhere and what to invest in now...

Pearls and gemstones

That's right, forget your dainty gold chains and simple cuff bracelets because maximalism is on its way and it'll be sticking around for a little while. Oversized pearl earrings and shoes and bags adorned with crystals a lá Gucci and Chanel are where it's at.

Tinted glasses

Big '70s style lenses were huge this summer and they'll continue to reign well into next year. Statement sunnies will be every shade of the rainbow with tinted lenses being one of the biggest accessories trends for the seasons ahead.

Granny bags

We've always loved a granny bag and now that it's perfectly acceptable, if not cool to rock a beaded bag or mini crochet number, we're digging our favourites out and stocking up on new handbag styles. If it's kitsch or cute, send it our way.

We’re making the case – no pun intended – for fashionable phones. The fact that we’re on our phones 24/7 should be reason enough to want to jazz them up a little and designers have taken note.

From ironic styles at Moschino to luxe carry cases from Gucci, designer phone cases are the latest must-have accessory. More affordable than at IT-bag but just as eye catching, phone fashion is the future.

Now, whether you’re into fun statement styles or sleek neutral designs, there’s no need to break the bank if you can’t afford to splash out on Valentino this month.

We’ve created an edit of the coolest phone cases from famed fashion houses and up-and-coming indie designers to ensure you’re looking suitably on-trend in your next mirror selfie.

With cooler weather just around the corner it’s time to start thinking about layering up. Obviously we’re not talking winter coats just yet but a jacket is always a good idea.

We recommend embracing the sporty, laid-back looks dominating the runway of late and lending your fall-ready ensemble an edge with a varsity jacket, a classic bomber or a baseball-inspired style.

Rolled out by Gucci and Chanel with luxe sequinned twists and cool monogramming and adopted by affordable brands here, there and everywhere in satin, velvet and crepe iterations, a boxy jacket is a guaranteed wardrobe hero.

Browse our pick of the best for men and women – remember a piece like this always looks cool oversized and layered – and shop the edit below…

Every month we round up the pieces we’ve been loving, trends we’re crazy about and the designer pieces we’re lusting after. So, here’s what we’ve been wearing and wishing for in the SC office this month…

We saw rain and a little chilly weather disrupt the heatwave so the sweaters came out. Did that mean we opted for sensible shoes? Absolutely not. Fun sliders, sandals and sneakers are still the order of August. Along with polkadots and leopard print – arguably the biggest trends of the summer so far.

We’ve also been loving iconic accessories by Gucci as seen on Instagram – see IT-bags and sunnies – simple denim by M.i.H Jeans and of course, those easy breezy boho vibes.

Simple cotton and linen shirts have been top of our menswear list and when it comes to colour trends yellow tones have been top of our list with everyone rocking a pop of sunshine at least once a week.

If you’re the sort of person who’d rather rock a pared-down tote and tee than an IT-bag and a sweater with logos plastered all over it, just hear us out…

While we’re not making a case for logo overkill, there are some pretty chic ways to rock a designer logo – see ‘90s-inspired Calvin Klein tees and iconic Gucci bags.

Plus, plenty of our favourite brands have put a contemporary twist on the trend too – see Off-WhiteTM and Moschino.

The phrase ‘less is more’ is a good one to bear in mind here so consider pairing your bold logo-adorned pieces with neutral separates for the weekend and smart tailoring for on-duty.

Want to try the effortlessly cool logo look for yourself? Browse our edit below and shop our favourite pieces from the likes of Balenciaga, Karl Lagerfeld and Givenchy…

Time to find a new pair of sunnies? You’ve got a tricky decision on your hands. Do you invest in a luxe pair from a high-end brand and feel like a total rockstar or do you opt for a cheaper designer dupe and still feel like a rockstar – albeit a pretend one?

We put a range of designer and designer dupe sunglasses to the test to discover whether investing in luxury labels is really worth it when it comes to eyewear…

Our findings were pretty conclusive – if you want a pair of sunnies to protect your eyes and still look good after two weeks of wear, it’s designer or nothing. Most cheap dupes just don’t provide the UV protection you need despite looking good so when it comes to sunglasses, be prepared to splash the cash if you want the best.

Luckily, our friends at Rent the Runway came up with a clever solution if you happen to be on a budget. Got a big event coming up or a vacation in the sunshine? You can rent a pair of luxe high-end shades for a tiny fraction of the cost of a brand new pair.

Renting designer pieces is a huge trend these days as it’s both sustainable and financially savvy. So, if you can’t justify spending on those Gucci frames yet, just rent them for as long as you’ll need them. We promise not to tell…

From Gucci to Marni luxury labels have been gifting us with far-out prints in statement colors for SS18 and beyond. These pieces look gorgeous when paired on a catwalk but what about when it comes to the practicalities of dressing for every day?

Clashing prints is a tricky trend to master, especially if you want to look chic for work, meetings and brunches with friends. There’s a fine line between effortless beauty and bag lady but fret not, we’re here to help.

Whatever your budget, take stock of our Editors’ tips and browse our picks below to look like a bonafide member of the Gucci gang day and night…

Keep it tonal

Keeping your pieces in the same color family, or clashing complementary colors will help to keep the look chic. Don’t go too matchy matchy but always keep your palette in mind.

Scale is everything

Too many oversized print pieces will drown you so remember to balance your silhouette. Team boxy jackets with voluminous skirts and pants and opt for slouchy tops and sweaters with mini skirts and tapered pants.

Mix fabrics

To accentuate the contrast between your prints, opt for clashing fabrics too. Mix silk with jacquards and crepe with denim and beading for a next-level look.

Accessories rules

Less is more with this trend so keep your shoes sleek and opt for simple earrings and rings. A single statement necklace always works well but keep it classic with a gold-toned chain or simple chunky knotted style.

We recently let our followers in on a little-known secret and boy did it go down well. Loved by our favourite influencers and even some celebs, fashion rental services have disrupted the way we shop and are only becoming more popular as stylish shoppers opt to borrow instead of buy…

Sometimes it really is worth investing in a designer piece – a classic black dress or pair of killer shoes for example – however, when it comes to splashing out on a designer bag, the price tag can often be a little too high to justify an investment.

Enter Rent the Runway, a luxury retailer with a whole host of high-end pieces that can be rented rather than purchased outright. Perfect for if you have a big event coming up or if you just feel like treating yourself for the month.

We’ve rounded up the best designer bags on offer so you can rock that Chloé backpack, the Gucci bag you’ve been dreaming of or that Kate Spade tote at your next wedding reception, board meeting or on your summer vacation.

Browse and shop the edit below for the best designer purses for a fraction of the cost…
