Duxford, Cambridgeshire:: Recreate the thrill of early air travel with a flight in one of Britain's best loved pre-war aircraft, the De Havilland Dragon Rapide biplane. Taking off from the IWM Duxford, fly north to Cambridge, enjoying magnificent views from 1,500 feet. See the glorious spires and quads of Cambridge University, the meandering River Cam, Newmarket Racecourse, the stunning Gothic architecture of Ely Cathedral and the open country of the Fens. Back on terra firma, get free entry into the IWM Duxford (and half price entry for any guests) - it's Europe's premier aviation museum, spread over 85 acres and housing classic planes like Spitfires, a B17 and the prototype Concorde. Availability: Most Sundays from March to October (weather permitting) as well as some selected Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Weather: Flying is a weather dependent activity. It is essential to call the venue after 8.30am on the morning of the flight for a weather check before setting off. Duration: The flight lasts approximately 40 minutes. Please arrive 45 minutes before the allotted start time, or call the venue if delayed. Numbers On Day: There are a maximum of eight passengers on board. The museum is very popular and can get busy on summer weekends and school holidays. Spectators: Visitors are welcome and are offered half price entry rates to the museum. Please note that all spectators have to enter the museum to watch any take off. There's no shelter outside, so bring a brolly if it's raining. Dress Code: Sunglasses are recommended all year round. If you have a camera and/or a pair of binoculars, bring them along. Guidelines: Duxford is next to junction 10 of the M11 motorway, 48 miles from London, less than half an hour from the M25 and just down the dual carriageway from the A1. Once in the museum, go to the Classic Wings office next to the Control Tower (signposted). The main entrance and Classic Wings office are not close to each other, but there is a free on-site train. Restrictions: Maximum weight is 20 stone and minimum age 16. Disabled customers are welcome (depending on ability), but personal helpers must be on hand to assist the passenger in and out of the aircraft. Other Info: Regulations set out by the Civil Aviation Authority can affect your rights in the unlikely event of an accident - full details are available from the venue. MUST take the booking confirmation letter on the day in order to guarantee participation.
