If you’re 30+ and fabulously single, you might have started to notice that the rules of ‘The Dating Game’ have changed from when you were in your 20s.
As you get older and more experienced, your relationship checklist adjusts and you might find yourself somewhat lost when it comes to dating.
If you’re tired of watching your single friends rapidly coupling up and leaving you behind, these seven tips for dating in your 30’s might help:
1. Leave the past behind
You’ve probably dealt with your fair share of heartbreak, from broken relationships to sudden bereavements. But, put all this aside on your date, focus on the present and be optimistic about the future. Remember, your new date has more possibilities than disappointments!
2. Don’t be put off by divorcees
The divorce rate in America is roughly between 42 and 50 percent, so you’re likely to come across divorcees in your dates. Don’t be put off by this, and let them take the lead when it comes to discussing their marriage.
3. Have fun!
When you’re on your date, focus on having fun and getting to know the person. Try not to grill your date about their priorities for the future. Instead, think sincere but light-hearted when it comes to first date conversation.
4. Know what you want, but compromise
As you grow older, you’ll probably become increasingly aware of what you want and need from a relationship. Take some time to figure this out if you haven't already.
That being said, it’s also important to learn to compromise – your perfect relationship might just be hidden behind the messy eater, bad-joke-teller or sloppy dresser.
Communication is key when it comes to any relationship, new or long-term. Talk to your date openly and honestly from the very beginning, and establish good communication habits as your relationship grows.
6. Trust your instincts
Your ‘Not-The-One-For-Me’ instincts are probably well-honed by now. If you’re finding that your date is leaving you feeling uneasy, unimpressed, uncomfortable or just disinterested, trust your gut and move on.
7. Be yourself
It’s never a good idea to pretend to be someone you’re not, and especially not when you’re on a date with your potential LTR. Be yourself and own who you are, and your date will be impressed by your confidence.
