Cold Brew Coffee Jug
Coffee? Cold? It might sound strange to some, but this hot new trend has really caught on. Theres nothing nicer than pouring yourself a glass from our Cold Brew Jug on a hot summers daySleek, stylish and simple to use, the Cold Brew is specially designed to bring out the clear, sweet flavours of the coffee the technique of steeping the grinds in cold water over a number of hours removes the slightly bitter kick you might get from a typical brew. The process is particularly well suited to a light roast, neutralising the acidity and bringing out citrus and fruit tones specific to the origin of the beans youll love it with the lemony notes of our Ethiopia Yirgacheffe and the ripe tropical fruit flavours of Kenya Peaberry. We tend to let the coffee grinds soak overnight ready for a fresh morning cup, but its ideal at any time of day. The nuanced flavours make it ideal choice for a food-pairing what will you choose?Using the Cold BrewAdd 50g of medium to large grind coffee to the filter section, and place in the brew bottle.Fill with cold water up to the 500ml level. Use filtered water for the clearest taste.Give the grinds a quick stir, and attach the lid.Pop it in the fridge leave overnight for a good 8 hours beauty sleepPour into a chilled glass for the smoothest, coolest sip. What do you think?

Margaret’s Hope First Flush Darjeeling chestlet 2015
June's Tea of the MonthOrigin: Margarets Hope Estate, Darjeeling, IndiaLeaf Type: Single Estate Black TeaTaste: Uniquely fresh with a rounded muscatel sweetnessDrink:Without milkBrew: Lightly, 2-3 minutesWhen to drink: As the finishing touch to a special occasionPicture the scene: as the first spring rains spread across the Himalayan foothills, the Darjeeling tea gardens start to turn green in a flush of colour the earliest harvest of the year is referred to as the First Flush and is considered one of the finest teas to be produced worldwide.Founded in 1865, Margarets Hope Estate was originally known as Bara Ringtong (the name of the two rivers which run through the estate), but in 1927 the estates founder Mr Cruikshank changed the name in honour of his youngest daughter. Margaret had fallen in love with Darjeeling on her very first visit and vowed to make the tea garden her home but her first visit was fated to be her last. The name of the tea garden is a poignant reminder of his daughters hope to return to the land she loved; she died of a tropical illness on the long journey back to England. Today her memory is kept alive by the estates world-famous First Flush, consistently excellent year after year. The tea is cultivated at altitudes of 915-1830m, primarily from the original China Jat bushes which would have been growing in Margarets day. A good First Flush all depends on the level of rain that spring; a flood or drought can destroy the crop, so you can never be sure how the tea will turn out. When news came of this years First Flush, picked in early April, we were all on tenterhooks as we waited for the first tastingWe werent disappointed in fact, we were frankly bowled over by the results. As wed expect from such a superior estate, this years First Flush has the fresh, effervescent quality that many compare to champagne, with the pungent fruity fragrance of a fine muscatel wine and a lovely golden colour to the cup. You might like to compare it to this years First Flush from Badamtam Estate youll be able to distinguish the two by the new hay sweetness and slight spiciness of the Margarets Hope variety, while Badamtam has clear floral tones with a refreshingly brisk finish. Badamtam First Flush Darjeeling 2015

Badamtam First Flush Darjeeling 2015
Origin: Badamtam Estate, Darjeeling, IndiaLeaf Type: Single Estate Black TeaTaste: Floral and refreshing with a white grape fragranceDrink: Without milkBrew: Lightly, 2-3 minutesWhen to drink: To refresh after a hard days workAh, Darjeeling Where to start? Well it seems only sensible to start with a First Flush, the tea crafted from Darjeelings first picking period of the year, and considered one of the most sublime teas to be produced worldwide. Tea specialists often refer to the effervescent quality of a good First Flush (one of the reasons its referred to as the champagne of teas), and the leaves are thought to have the fragrance of muscat grapes. Theres no black tea quite like it, and few First Flush Darjeelings compare to this years selection from Badamtam Estate, picked high amid the lush green hills of Darjeelings Lebong Valley Taking its name from a word used by the indigenous Lepcha tribe to refer to bamboo water carriers, Badamtam was first founded in 1858 in fact, its one of the oldest tea estates in Darjeeling. Watched over by the looming Kanchenjunga Mountain (known as the Sleeping Buddha), the gardens cover altitudes ranging from 305 to 1830m; the first picking takes place between mid-March and second week of May, depending on the level of rain that spring. This particular variety was picked in early April, and there was no shortage of suspense as we waited for the first tasting the weather in Darjeeling can change in the blink of an eye (a drought or flood can ruin the crop), so you can never be sure how a First Flush tea will turn outWe neednt have worried with its bright green leaves and silvery tips, this years Badamtam First Flush exceeded our highest expectations. Youll find it has the perfect balance of briskness and sweeter white grape tones, with a subtle floral fragrance which evolves as the cup cools. Its well worth trying with our Margarets Hope First Flush to compare theres a refreshing kick to the finish of the Badamtam, while Margarets Hope has a new-mown hay sweetness and deeper muscatel notes. Which suits your taste best?
